- Obituary:
Donald Ledford, a native of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, died December 1, 2017, while vacationing in Utah. He was a resident of Pearcy, Arkansas.
Don was born December 2, 1954 and grew up in Kings Mountain. He graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 1972, where he was President of his Senior Class. He went on to N.C. State University, where he earned a degree in Forestry. He later earned a Master's Degree from Texas A&M University. He worked in the forest products industry, both in manufacturing and in research and development. He retired from Weyerhaeuser.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Felgate and her husband John, and three grandchildren, Ellison, Joshua, and Payson, all of Pearcy, Arkansas. He is also survived by his brothers, Paul and Jerry Ledford of Kings Mountain and their families. He was the son of the late Grace and Frank Ledford.
Don was an avid woodworker, and many of his friends and family have pieces that he constructed uniquely for them. He was a big lover of the outdoors and the national parks. He traveled around the whole country visiting parks and often had family members and friends joining him on these trips.
He was an experienced and enthusiastic skier, and spent several months each year in the western United States and abroad on ski trips. He was on a ski trip when he died.
A memorial service will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1102 Oak Grove Road, Kings Mountain, N.C. 28086 at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 9, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
