      Marie Medica Pugh

Age 71, of Indianapolis, IN, peacefully transitioned from life on November 9th, 2015 in her home surrounded by family and friends. Marie was born in Alexandra, LA, daughter of Joseph Anthony Medica and Pearl Rizzo Medica. Her parents and an older brother, Sam, preceded her in death.

She will be missed by her husband of 50 years, Newell O. Pugh Jr., MD, her three daughters, Rebecca Marie Iovino (Anthony), Cynthia Marie Pugh (Bryan Bowman), and Sara Marie Pugh (Josh Cook); her grandchildren Joseph Anthony Iovino, Anthony Newell Iovino and Andrew Dylan Bowman; her brother Peter Medica (Margaret), and sister Veta Ann Carney (John) and nephew Daniel; by many much loved nieces, nephews, and in-laws; and countless friends. All who knew her have been touched by her loving nature and generous heart.

Marie was a registered nurse and health care professional who supervised an acute dialysis unit and co-authored a manual on home dialysis. She was a Certified Nursing Research Professional in bone studies. She served on the Board of Park Tudor School and The Indianapolis Art Center. She was past president of the Park Tutor Mothers' Association and the Woman's Auxiliary of the Southern Club of Indianapolis. Marie was an accomplished artist, avid gardener and golfer.

Through her collaboration with friends she developed Girl Scout groups that influenced many young woman into adulthood. One of them recently said, "I have always strived to be the kind of mother I saw in Marie. To open my doors and my heart to not only my children but their friends that may just be needing someone else who cares."

Marie folded people into her life as chosen family. She was an example of generosity to all who knew her particularly the children she "adopted" into her heart. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Hers was a life very well lived.

Marie will be inurned at Our Lady of Peace on Saturday, November 21st in a private family ceremony. There will be a celebration of life on November 22nd from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Meridian Hills Country Club. All friends and family are invited. In lieu of flowers, Marie requested donations be made to The Indianapolis Art Center. A block of rooms for out of town guests is available at Courtyard Indianapolis Carmel, 10290 N Meridian 46290, 800 321-2211. Guest reference "Pugh Memorial" or register at http://tinyurl.com/p4qegbp.
