      VAVRA, Joe D. "J.D.", 68, of Caldwell died Tuesday. Visitation noon today, Strickland Funeral Home, Caldwell. Rosary 7 p.m. today, Strickland. Services 10 a.m. Friday. Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Frenstat. Burial Holy Rosary Cemetery.

      CALDWELL - Services for Joe D. "J.D." Vavra, 68, of Caldwell are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Frenstat.

      Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell.

      Mr. Vavra died Tuesday in Bryan.

      He was born in Burleson County. He was a supervisor at the International Shoe Co. He was a Korean War veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 451. He was also a member of KJT Society No. 12 and the Czech Heritage Society of Texas.

      Survivors include his wife, Carolyn D. Vavra of Caldwell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig A. and Rhonda Homeyer, and Carl W. and Sheila Homeyer, all of Caldwell; four grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Tina Vavra of Caldwell, James and Janie Vavra of Caldwell; two sisters, Georgia and Julius Knesek and Eleanora and Milton Mynar, all of Caldwell; a mother-in-law, Lottie Drgac of Caldwell; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

      Memorials may be made to Holy Rosary Cemetery Fund, American Heart Association, American Diabetic Association or charity of choice.
