    Obituary:

MIDLAND -- Family and friends are saddened to announce the loss of Walter Lynn Turner, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather on Monday, October 4, 2010.

Walter was born February 28, 1923 on a farm in Thackerville, Oklahoma to Walter Marvin Turner and Viola Turner nee Isbell. The family later moved to Colorado City.

Walter served in the Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946, patrolling the North Atlantic during World War II, attaining the rank of chief petty officer, fire controlman.

After his return to Colorado City, at the end of his service, he courted Ialee "Sammye" McGee. They married on June 6, 1947. During 63 years of marriage, they had three children, who would give them three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Always known for his integrity and the quality of his work, Walter worked as a building contractor, a trade he took pride in and enjoyed for 50 years.

He is survived by wife, Sammye Turner of Midland; daughters, Kaylynn Turner of Temple and Suzanne Hayes of Midland; son, Clay Turner of Houston; granddaughters, Cody Peck of Midland and Mandy Hughes of Midland; grandson, Chris Turner-Neal of Midland; great-grandchildren, Colton Howell, Dillon Suggs and Hayden Hughes, all of Midland; sisters, Marie Cruz of Big Spring and Joy Phillips of Odessa; brothers, Travis Turner of Colorado City and Wendell Turner of Portland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In his many roles as husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle and friend, he was a shining example of gentlemanliness and honesty. In the words of one then small grandson, he was "the guardian of our family". We are grieved by his passing, but immeasurably blessed to have shared his life.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.

    Obituary:

MIDLAND - Ialee Kay ("Sammye") Turner passed away peacefully at age 86 on October 12, 2016.

Ialee Kay McGee was born June 22, 1930 to Poley P. McGee and Lily McGee in Midland. She spent her youth in Colorado City wrangling two dear brothers, Lane and Larry McGee, and attended Colorado High School (where we understand the pep squad was outstanding...from her own accounts!).

It was there that she met the love of her life, Walter L. Turner. After Walter convinced Mr. and Mrs. McGee that he was a worthy man to take care of their daughter, the elder McGees approved, and Walter and "Sammye" (a nickname she acquired in high school) were married on June 26, 1947.

They soon began the adventure of their new lives together in Midland, which they called home for the rest of their lives. After a honeymoon phase of a few years, the adventure expanded with the addition of their three children: daughter Kaylynn, daughter Suzanne and son Clay.

In their first years in Midland, Sammye worked in a photography studio and discovered a lifelong love of photography. Her favorite subjects to photograph were her children and grandchildren, historic Texas courthouses and Texas wildflowers from all over the state. A spring "flower tour" of much of the state they loved, was an annual ritual for Walter and Sammye during each April when the wildflowers were at their peak.

The family ultimately expanded to grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Although most made their homes in Midland, some are spread as far afield as Austin and New Orleans.

Sammye and Walter's adventure together ended after 63 years of marriage with Walter's death in 2010. Sammye continued on her path alone but surrounded by loving children and grandchildren until her death on October 12, 2016. She was loved and will be very much missed by all including her grandchildren Cody Peck, Mandy Hendrix and Chris Turner-Neal.

A private burial will be held in Colorado City. In lieu of flowers. The family requests donations be made to Home Hospice of Midland.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com.
