    SSGT David Wayne Palmer (RET), age 47, of Summerville, GA, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Kindred Hospital in Rome, GA.

    SSGT Palmer was born July 16, 1968, in Trion, GA, son of Huston Ladon Palmer and Sara Ann Gaines Palmer. He was retired from the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant where he served two tours of duty in Afghanistan, and two tours in Iraq. SSGT Palmer was preceded in death by his grandparents, Huston and Carolyn Palmer, Grady and Florence Gaines; nephew, Tyler Palmer; and a niece, Ansley Palmer.

    SSGT Palmer is survived by his father and step-mother, Huston Ladon and Peggy Palmer; mother, Sara Ann Palmer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ricky Ladon and LeAnne Palmer, Roger Scott and Jennifer Palmer; sisters and brother-in-law, Wendy Marie and Greg Wofford, Roxann Palmer and Benny Humphreys; nieces and nephews, Ross Palmer, Jessie Wofford, Erica Palmer, Alex Palmer, Jacob Wofford, Heather Palmer Hampton, and Kayla Rogers; 9 great-nieces and great-nephews.

    Funeral services for SSGT Palmer will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, April 8, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary "Bucky" Brown and Min. Ronnie Tollette officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery will full military honors. Active pallbearers will be Jacob Brown, Mark McDaniel, Kevin Warren, Wesley Thomas, Michael Warren, Gerald Link, June Bug Evans, and Michael Matlin. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Joe Dooley, Fred Simmons, Sebastiano Cavallo, Ron Rowland, Donald Starkey, and the Members of the 108th R.S.T.A. Battalion of the United States Army.

    SSGT Palmer will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 7, 2016.
