Obituary:

Rodney Joseph McComb, 80, of Moss Bluff died after a courageous five-year battle with cancer at 4:43 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, in a local hospital.

Mr. McComb was born June 14, 1928, in Gueydan, raised in Biloxi, Miss., and lived in Lake Charles for a number of years before moving to Moss Bluff in 1975. He served two years in the Army. He retired after a number of years from the Gravity and Drainage Board as a heavy equipment operator. A member of St. Theodore Catholic Church, Mr. McComb enjoyed camping, hunting and growing his garden. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Mr. McComb is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Arabie McComb; children, Jeanette Gaspard and husband LeRoy, June Ann Bailey and husband Kenneth, all of Moss Bluff, Helen Parker and husband Jimmy of Lake Charles, Janie LaCasse and husband Luther of Moss Bluff, Karen Duhon and husband Howard of Lake Charles, Rod McComb and wife Tammie of Moss Bluff, and Cynthia Mathieu and husband Max of Lake Charles; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mr. McComb was preceded in death by his parents, Exale and Neoila McComb; brothers, Wilford and Wilbert McComb; and grandson, Jason Howard Duhon.

His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Snider will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-10 p.m. today, Oct. 23, and from 8 a.m. until the services on Friday.
