    CROWLEY - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 9:30 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley for Harold Martin Mire, age 85, who died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 11:15 am in Garden View Assisted Living in Lafayette, LA.

    Fr. Louis Richard, Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Broussard will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow the service in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Friday, February 4, 2011 from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturday, February 5, 2011from 8:00 am to service time. A rosary will be recited Friday, February 4, 2011 at 6 pm at the funeral home.

    Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Rando and her husband Felix of Marrero, Patricia Como and her husband Brady of Broussard; three sons, Michael Martin Mire and his wife Denise of Broussard, John David Mire of Harvey and Harold Patrick Mire and his wife Patricia of Crowley; eight grandchildren, Amy Billeaudeaux and her husband, Jean-Luc of Lafayette, Brian Rando of Lafayette, Laura Rando and fiance', Bobby April, of New Orleans, Mary Claire Rando of Marrero, Brock Mire and his wife, Jennie of Kaplan, Joshua Mire of Crowley, Benjamin Como of Broussard, Katie Como of Broussard; five great-grandchildren, Louis Mire, Andrew Mire, Lily Mire, Cole Rando and Amelie Billeaudeaux; two sisters, Dorothy M. Mack of Forked River, NJ and Betty Cole and her husband George of Lafayette; one sister-in-law Peggy Mire of Baton Rouge; one daughter-in-law, Syd Mire of Columbia, MS.

    Mr. Mire was preceded in death by his wife Joycie S. Mire; his parents, Arthur J. and Margie L. Mire; one brother, Arthur J. Mire, Jr.; and one sister, Catherine Culbertson.

    Harold was born in Crowley on August 24, 1925. Mr. Mire proudly served our country in the Army Air Corps in Okinawa, Japan during World War II. He was active in St. Michael Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic minister. He was also active in the American Legion Post 15 and was a Leader in Troop 5 of the Boy Scouts.

    Mr. Mire was a land surveyor and land manager; he served as Vice President of Valhi, Inc. and President of Dixie Land Corporation which managed properties in southwest Louisiana.

    He loved traveling with his wife Joycie and other family members and friends. Later in life, he also enjoyed recalling and sharing those memories.

    Pallbearers will be Michael Martin Mire, John David Mire, Harold Patrick Mire, Brock Patrick Mire, Brian Dominick Rando, Joshua Patrick Mire and Benjamin Brady Como.

    The Mire family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to his caretakers, Sarah Gonzalez, Jacqueline Young, Shelia Williams, and Sharon Wheeler as well as the entire staff at Garden View Assisted Living in Lafayette.

    CROWLEY - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Joycie R. Simon Mire, 78, who died Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.

    Mrs. Mire is best remembered as "Miss Joycie" by many in Crowley who attended her Humpty Dumpty preschool. In 1964, Miss Joycie converted her living room into a classroom and opened her first school. She later acquired a small building and moved her school next to her home. She touched the lives of many in her thirty-five years of teaching.

    Joycie was born in Crowley on July 9, 1928. She was active in St. Michaels Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic minister, taking communion to nursing home residents and teaching CCD. Joycie was also very active in the community, volunteering as a Pink Lady at the American Legion Hospital, serving on the Crowley Art Association Board and countless other ways. While her children were young, she was a youth leader serving as a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Leader and school volunteer. Joycie loved working in her yard and tending to her beautiful flowers. Her yard was selected as the "Garden of the Month."

    Mrs. Mire was preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Anastasia "Tazie" Simon and one brother, Elmo Simon.

    Pallbearers will be Michael Martin Mire, John David Mire, Harold Patrick Mire, Brock Patrick Mire, Brian Dominick Rando, Joshua Patrick Mire and Benjamin Brady Como.

    The family would like to thank the many dear friends for their compassion and care during Joycie's illness.

    Sunday Rites For Mr. Simon

    Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the St. Michael Catholic Church for Elias Simon, 76, who died in the American Legion Hospital. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

    Survivors include two sons, Oren Simon of Crowley, and Richard Simon of Crowley; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Mire of Crowley and Mrs. Emile Reggie of Crowley; four brothers, Thea Simon of Maurice, Philo Simon of Mermentau, Otto Simon of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Loland Simon of Maurice; five sisters, Mrs. Lucy Whittington of Maurice, Mrs. Cecile Derouen of Maurice, Mrs. Althea Menard of Maurice, Mrs. Alice Simon of Maurice, and Mrs. Oston Simon of Maurice, 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

    Mrs. Elias Simon Rites Set Friday

    CROWLEY, La. - Mrs. Elias Simon, 57, of Crowley, died in the American Legion Hospital at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday following an illness of about two weeks.

    Funeral services have been scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday in St. Michael's Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Woodlawn cemetery. The body will remain at the Geesey - Ferguson Funeral Home until the time of the rites.

    Mrs. Simon was the mother of Miss Janice Simon, 18 year olf beauty who will represent Crowley at the International Rice Festival this year.

    The former Tazie Clement, Mrs. Simon was born Nov. 17, 1900, in Rayne. She moved to Crowley in 1921 and had been a resident since that time.

    Besides her daughter, Janice, Mrs. Simon is survived by her husband; another daughter, Mrs. Harold Mire of Crowley; three sons, Elmo, Oren, and Richard Simon, all of Crowley; three brothers, Walter Clement of Rayne, B.B. Clement of Lake Charles, and Elphie Clement of Rayne; two sisters, Mrs. M. J. Henry of Galveston, Tex., and Mrs. Leland Clark of Lake Charles; and nine grandchildren
