    Obituary:

    The former owner of Simmers Furniture and Appliance Repair, he passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Provost Hospital in Donaldsonville. He was 79, three months from his 80th birthday, and a resident and native of White Castle. He was a former member of the National Guard. Visiting at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, White Castle, on Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Joey Angeles, celebrant. Entombment in the church cemetery. Survived by his wife, Virginia Ann Maggio Simmers; a son, James M. "Lil Mule" Simmers Jr.; a sister, Sherry Simmers Gueho and husband E.L; a brother, Bill Simmers; two grandchildren, Eric Anthony and Shane Patrick Simmers and their mother, Judy O. Simmers; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriele Joseph and Evelyn Kate Simmers. Preceded in death by a son, Mitch Simmers; parents, Harry Sr. and Mary Crow Simmers; and brother, Harry Frank Simmers Jr. Pallbearers will be Bobby Gueho, Eric, Shane, Ronnie, Zack, Michael and Billy Simmers. He was a former member of the White Castle Lions Club. He loved to work in his yard, was an avid LSU and Saints fan, and enjoyed taking care of his dog, Snoopy. Special thanks to his son, Jamesy for his loving care and devotion that he gave to his father. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
