Obituary:

Robert Dale Howland, Jr. 52, of Big Spring, died Monday, July 3, 2023 following a motorcycle accident in Big Spring. A memorial service with military honors will be held Spring Creek Fellowship, 1801 FM700, Big Spring, Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 10 AM.

Robert was born in Bryan, TX, February 15, 1971 to Robert D. Howland and Kay Easterling Howland. He graduated from Coahoma High School. He spent several years in the US Army serving in Desert Storm, Afghanistan and other areas throughout the Middle East, Europe and South America. He later worked for Blackwater. He was an avid motorcyclist and co-founded the Fidei Defensor Motorcycle Club which is made up of Blackwater veterans. He was the founder and president of KBA Mobile Heavy Equipment Repair and Welding of Big Spring.

Robert is survived by his wife, Kerri Howland; his parents, Robert and Kay Howland; his sister, Michelle Crenshaw (Shannon); sons, Cody Robey and Skippy Howland; daughter, Shawan Hjalmarson; granddaughter, Aubrey Groves; and nephew, Oden Yanez. Robert Lee Howland, 93, of Big Spring, TX, died Monday March 6, 2023 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 10, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Robert was born January 27, 1930 in Red River County, TX to the late Roy J. and Zelma Mae (Tucker) Howland. He married Joy (McNew) Howland on December 17, 1949. They have been married for nearly 74 years.

Robert possessed a deep rooted work ethic and was known to be an especially hard worker. In his youth he worked at Hobbs Lumber & Supply in Hobbs, New Mexico where he became the yard foreman. He also worked as a ranch hand and ranch foreman prior to starting his welding business. He worked for many years in the welding field working for farms and in the oil field. He was particularly skilled at welding farm equipment. A true cowboy he enjoyed rodeos, old westerns on TV and his horses. He especially loved the dogs that were his companion over the years. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Big Spring. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he loved the time spent with family.

Robert is survived by his wife, Joy; his son, Robert D. "Skip" Howland and his wife Kay; his grandson, Robert D. "Bo" Howland Jr. and his wife Kerri; his granddaughter, Michelle Lee Crenshaw and her husband Shannon; his great-grandchildren, Cody, Shawna, Oden, Skipper, and Xander; his great-great-granddaughter, Aubrey; his brother, Jerry Howland; his sister, Maggie Mikus; and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, James, and Wayne; and his sisters, Lucy, and Mattie.

Joy Lee Howland was born in Big Spring, Texas on December 11th, 1933. February 10, 2024 Joy went to join her host of loved ones that had gone before her. She is now joined with her husband of 74 years Robert Howland who passed away on March 6th, 2023, and grandson Robert Howland Jr. on July 3, 2023.

Joy was also preceded in death by her parents RX McNew and Lillie Ruth McNew, 4 brothers and one sister.

Joy is survived by one son Robert D. Howland and wife Kay of Big Spring. Granddaughter Michelle Crenshaw and husband Shannon of Big Spring and several great grandchildren; three sisters Carolyn Rodgers, Barbara Clark and husband Danny of Big Spring, and Sharron and Bob Husson of Dallas.

Joy was a lifelong member of Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

BIG SPRING - Lillie "Ruth" McNew, 84, of Luther died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in a local hospital.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Baptist Church with burial in Mount Olive Cemetery. Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

She was born Nov. 29, 1916, in Hamilton. She was a homemaker, a Baptist and a member of Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include her husband, R.X. McNew of Luther; three sons, Rex McNew of Gonzales, Bobby McNew of Navasota and Billy McNew of Athens; five daughters, Joy Howland of Big Spring, Jean Crowder of Navasota, Carolyn Rodgers of Big Spring, Sharron Husson of Sassy and Barbara Clark of Coahoma; a sister, Cora Lee Jernigan of Abilene; 26 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
