    CANEY, Kan. - N. J. Harrison, age 70, passed away at his residence in Caney on Friday morning, Feb. 13, 2004. He was born Aug. 22, 1933 in Abilene, Texas to Newman and Maudie Harrison.

    He was raised in Odessa and Snyder, Texas. He was a 1952 graduate of Snyder High School.

    He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and retired from active duty from the U. S. Navy after 24 years of service.

    On May 10, 1959, he married Nancy McClelland in Reno, Nev. She survives at the home.

    He graduated from Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kan. He then attended and graduated from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan.

    He was a high school Shop teacher at the Sedan High School. N. J. and his wife Nancy owned and operated the Harrison Variety Store in Caney.

    He was an active member of the Caney United Methodist Church of Caney, where he was.a Sunday School teacher. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW.

    He was preceded in death by his son, George, his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

    Other survivors include his two grandsons.

    Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life service was held at the Caney United Methodist Church in Caney on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor C. Kent Rogers officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

    Memorial contributions may be given to the Caney Unied Methodist Church in care of Graves Funeral Home of Caney.

    Nancy Sue McClelland Harrison, 86, of Caney, Kansas passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2016 at Medicalodges in Independence, Kansas.

    Nancy was born on December 17, 1929 the only child of George W. and Lillian B. McClelland II. She spent her childhood in Phillips, Texas where she attended her first eight years of her education in the small rural Phillips School. She graduated from Borger High School and then earned her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and Art from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. One of her highlights was driving a 30s Ford Coupe to and from college and home to visit during snow storms. She was independent.

    Nancy's first teaching job was in Dallas, Texas and later moved to Snyder, Texas for a new teaching position. It was there she met N.J. Harrison. The couple was united in marriage on May 10, 1959 in Reno, Nevada. He was in the Navy and they moved to California. Nancy taught in the Long Beach area until the arrival of their only son, George. Later, Nancy and NJ move to Sedan, Kansas. She was a well-respected teacher in Sedan and Caney where they later made their home.

    Nancy took time off from teaching to operate with her husband, V.&S. Variety store in Caney. She returned to teaching later.

    She taught Sunday School at the Caney United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Church and later enjoyed the adult Sunday School class.

    She delighted in her grandsons A.J. and Tevor. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting and quilting. In her youth she was active in softball and basketball. Nancy enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys football team.

    Nancy is survived by her grandsons Ace Jackson Wesselmann of Minnesota and Trevor Scott Harrison of Norman, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lillian McClelland II, husband, N.J. Harrison and her son, George Newman Harrison.

    Memorial Services will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Caney United Methodist Church under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Coffeyville, Kansas. Pastor Will Kenyon will officiate.

    The family suggests memorials to the Caney United Methodist Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.

    SNYDER (Staff) - Funeral services for N. J. Harrison, 74, Snyder, are scheduled for 3 p.m. today in the Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Reeves, pastor of the Westwood Baptist Church of Odessa, officiating. Burial in Hillside Memorial Gardens will be under the direction of Bell - Seale Funeral Home.

    Harrison died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday at Cogdill Hospital after a short illness.

    He was born Dec. 16, 1891, in Comanche County. A retired pumper, he had lived in Snyder the past 20 years. He was a member of the Baptist church.

    Among survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Doyle Farmer of Odessa; and two sons, Loyd Harrison and Wayne Harrison, also of Odessa.

    SNYDER - Services for Maudie Dell Harrison, 88, of Snyder are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Northside Baptist Church, Snyder, the Rev. Bob Rhodes officiating. Burial is scheduled for Hillside Memorial Gardens, Snyder.

    She died Friday at Odessa's Medical Center Hospital.

    Mrs. Harrison was born Oct. 5, 1896, in Kent County. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher.

    She married Newman J. Harrison Dec. 18, 1912, in Clairmont, He died in 1986.

    Survivors include four sons, L.D. Harrison of Abilene, N.J. Harrison of Caney, Kan., Loyd E. Harrison and Oral W. Harrison both of Odessa; one brother Ben J. Hagar of Jaton; 14 grandchildren, and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
