    Obituary:

Charles R. Holcomb, Sr., 82, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 after a brief illness. Charles was born January 9, 1926 in Diboll, TX to Paralee and Frank Holcomb.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Rita White and Edna Costlow and many good friends.

Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sarah Holcomb; daughters, Judy Minter, Charlene Jackson, Louise Feder and husband Robin; son, Charles R. Holcomb, Jr. and wife, Clara, who was more of a daughter to our dad than daughter-in-law. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah Mabry, Julie Mabry, Stephanie Thompson, Teresa Baskin, Joshua Jackson, Chad Feder, Alicia Feder, Jessica, Virginia, Victoria and Sarah Holcomb, Brandy Smith; three great-grandsons, Kovi Johnson, Christian Thompson and Madden Betancourt. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Louise and Randy Crawford, nephews, nieces, and other family members.

Charles was an army WWII veteran who rode on Charles Shultz' tank, as they began their journey to fight at the Battle of the Bulge and to help liberate concentration camps. After the war, the family settled in Texas City where Charles worked for Monsanto and retired after 33 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 1118 of Texas City for 50 years. He was also a member of El Mina Shriners. He volunteered many hours transporting burn patients to and from the airport and hospital.

Charles will be remembered as always being tough and being the one that would always stand up for what he thought was right. He believed in taking names and kicking butt, if that what it took. He would give a stranger the shirt off his back, but you better not try to take it. He was always for the underdog. He never met a stranger and treated all people the same.
