    Obituary:

Sarah Charlene Holcomb Jackson died peacefully at home August 15, 2017 surrounded by family, days short of her 67th birthday. She was born August 30, 1950.

Charlene was a lifelong resident of Texas City, Texas graduating from Texas City High School in 1968. She would proudly tell everyone she was the president of Future Homemakers of America and a May Fete Princess. After high school, she attended Lamar University for two years with a pre-med major.

Charlene was employed by Southwestern Bell for 15 years. Most of these years, she was a single mom. She worked hard at this difficult job to provide her three children a good home and a good life. Her only son, Josh was in special Olympics and she saw to it that he and his friends made it to their events. She was supportive of all things Special Olympics and was once named Special Olympics Mom of the year.

Charlene loved a good margarita, Mexican food, the beach, animals, her family and the ID network. In her youth, she was an avid reader.

In 2005 Charlene beat breast cancer, but this year cancer came back with a vengeance, and had spread throughout her body. After a brief courageous battle, her late mother called her home on this special day.

For the last 30 years her son, Josh has been her constant companion, giving each other support through many challenges; however, Josh will quickly tell you he would rather be living with Steve Martin and his 12 children.

She is preceded in death by her namesakes, parents, Sarah and Charles R. Holcomb, Sr.

Charlene is survived by sisters, Judy Holcomb Minter and Elizabeth Louise Feder (Robin); brother, Charles R Holcomb, Jr. (Clara); daughters, Stephanie Thomassen (Riko), Teresa Baskin, and son; Josh Jackson; grandsons, Christian Thomassen and Kovi Johnson; nieces, Sarah and Julie Mabry, Alicia Feder, Jessica, Virginia, Victoria, and Sarah Holcomb, and nephew, Chad Feder.

The family would like to thank Larry Baskin, her caregiver, and all the family and friends that surrounded her with food, laughter, and love.

The family will greet visitors from 2-3pm with 3pm Memorial Services to follow this Saturday, August 19, 20174 at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Fwy, Texas City, TX.

    Obituary:

Charles R. Holcomb, Sr., 82, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 after a brief illness. Charles was born January 9, 1926 in Diboll, TX to Paralee and Frank Holcomb.

Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sarah Holcomb; daughters, Judy Minter, Charlene Jackson, Louise Feder and husband Robin; son, Charles R. Holcomb, Jr. and wife, Clara, who was more of a daughter to our dad than daughter-in-law. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah Mabry, Julie Mabry, Stephanie Thompson, Teresa Baskin, Joshua Jackson, Chad Feder, Alicia Feder, Jessica, Virginia, Victoria and Sarah Holcomb, Brandy Smith; three great-grandsons, Kovi Johnson, Christian Thompson and Madden Betancourt. Charles was an army WWII veteran who rode on Charles Shultz' tank, as they began their journey to fight at the Battle of the Bulge and to help liberate concentration camps. After the war, the family settled in Texas City where Charles worked for Monsanto and retired after 33 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 1118 of Texas City for 50 years. He was also a member of El Mina Shriners. He volunteered many hours transporting burn patients to and from the airport and hospital.

Charles will be remembered as always being tough and being the one that would always stand up for what he thought was right. He believed in taking names and kicking butt, if that what it took. He would give a stranger the shirt off his back, but you better not try to take it. He was always for the underdog. He never met a stranger and treated all people the same.
