    DUBACH, LA - James Parks Hamilton, 79, State Department of Education, State Supervisor, of Dubach, died at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 1992 at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston following a lengthy illness.

    Mr. Hamilton was a native of Dubach, La. and was a member of First Baptist Church of Dubach, La. He was a Sunday School teacher, deacon, State School Supervisor and teacher.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 1992 at First Baptist Church of Dubach, La. with Dr. Connie Ward officiating, assisted by Bro. Dayton Doughty and Bro. Kenneth Everett. interment will be in Hamilton Cemetery in Dubach, La. under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, La.

    He is survived by his wife, Clyta Cole Hamilton; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Hamilton Green and Larry Green; grandsons, James Palmer Green and Thomas Larry Green, Jr.; step daughter-in-law, Bobbie Cole Nolan; ste son-in-law, Ernest Nolan; step grandson, Jason Lee Cole; step granddaughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Cole; step great-grandson, Zachary David Cole; three brothers, Bill Hamilton and wife, Iwilla of Ruston, La., Eugene Hamilton of Dubach, La. and Joe Burns Hamilton and wife, Jackie of Dubach; nephew, Fredrick Hamilton and wife, Freida of Ruston, La.; nephew, Joe Burns Hamilton, Jr. and wife, Vickie of Dubach, La.; niece, Elaine Rupert of Weatherford, Texas; many cousins and friends.

    Pallbearers will be Herschel Cooper, Luther Colvin, Charles Ruel Colvin, Marvin Davidson, Clyde Barham, Jimmy Lane Davis, Fred Baxter and Ruel Gene Robinson.

    All present and former members of "James Hamilton Sunday" School class will be honorary pallbearers.

    RUSTON - Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Houston Hamilton, 60, of Dubach, were at 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church of Dubach with the Rev. Dayton Doughty officiating.

    Burial was in Hamilton Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick's Funeral home for Mrs. Hamilton, who died Tuesday at Lincoln General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

    Survivors include her husband, James Hamilton of Dubach; one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Green of Baton Rouge and two grandchildren.

    The family requests that any planned memorials be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home.

    G.O. HOUSTON LAID TO REST AT MANSFIELD

    Funeral Service Held in First Baptist Church in Shreveport

    Last rites for Gilbert Orren Houston, 51, of Baton Rouge, who died in a local sanitarium early Sunday morning, were held at the First Baptist church at 1 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. M.E. Dodd, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Bennett of Mansfield, officiating.

    After the services the body of the deceased educator, who was secretary of the Louisiana State Teachers association, was taken overland by the Osborn funeral home to Mansfiled for burial.

    Mr. Houston suffered a heart attack at Baton Rouge on Christmas eve and was brought here for treatment. His condition gradually grew worse.

    Long prominent in school activities in this section, Mr. Houston became assistant superintendent of education in Caddo Parish in 1926, after having distinguished himself as superintendent of education of DeSoto parish. He moved to Baton Rouge in 1931 when was chosen secretary of the Louisiana Teachers association.

    Surviving the deceased are his widow; a daughter, Miss Frances Houston; four sisters, Mrs. G.E. Hodges of Shreveport, Mrs. John Adkins of Cotton Valley, Mrs. Porter Cochran of Springhill, and Mrs. S.B. Pugh of Sarepta, and five brothers, I.N. Houston, L. Houston and V.E. Houston, all of Shreveport, and Dr. W.M. Houston of El Dorado and L.L. Houston of Sarepta.

    Active pallbearers were W.L. Colvin, Jeanerette; S.B. Emmons, Minden; H.W. Wright, Jonesville; Spencer Phillips, Pelican; L.W. Ferguson, Haynesville; W.B. Always, Donaldsonville; L.E. Frazar, Merryville, and E.W. Jones, Shreveport.

    G.O. HOUSTON, 50, EDUCATOR, DIES SUNDAY

    Services for Secretary of Teachers' Group to Be Held Today

    G.O. Houston, 50, of Baton Rouge, La., died in a Shreveport sanitarium at 3 p.m. Sunday.

    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the First Baptist church. Dr. M.E. Dodd, pastor, assisted by the Reverend Bennett of the Mansfield Baptist church will officiate. Interment will be at Mansfield under the direction of the Osborn funeral home.

    Pallbearers will be W.L. Colvin, Jeanerette; S.R. Emmons, Minden; H.W. Wright, Jonesville; Spencer Phillips, Pelican; L.W. Ferguson, Haynesville; W.B. Always, Donaldsonville; L.E. Frazar, Merryville, and E.W. Jones of Shreveport.

    Mr. Houston had for years been an outstanding figure in educational circles of the state. He was secretary of the Louisiana Teacher's association and had served as assistant superintendent of Caddo parish schools from 1926 to 1931. He was an instructor for a time at Louisiana State Normal. He served as superintendent of schools of DeSoto parish from 1912-1926. Mr. Houston had been a prominent figure in seeking legislation in the state for educational causes. In 1924 he served as president of the Louisiana State Teachers' association.

    The deceased is survived by his widow; one daughter, Miss Frances Houston; four sisters, Mrs. G.E. Hodges of Shreveport, Mrs. John Adkins of Cotton Valley, Mrs. Porter Cochran of Springhill and Mrs. S.B. Pugh of Sarepta, and five brothers, I.N. Houston, L. Houston, V.E. Houston, all of Shreveport; Dr. W.M. Houston of El Dorado, Ark., and L.L. Houston of Sarepta.

    Mr. Houston was a native of Webster parish having been born and reared at Sarepta.

    The deceased was stricken with a heart attack and complications on Christmas eve in Baton Rouge. He was brought to a sanitarium here. He took a turn for the worst Saturday night and died Sunday afternoon.

    Lazarus L. Houston, 84-year old pioneer resident of this section and the head of a large and prominent North Louisiana family, died at his home near Sarepta, La. Mr. Houston was born near Cuthbert, Randolph County, Ga. The son of Samuel T. and Esther Martin Houston. He was the sixth of a family of 13 children. When a boy he moved with his parents to Webster Parish, La., where they settled on a homestead tract near Sarepta. There his mother gave the name Sarepta to the town that sprang up near their home. Mr. Lazarus L. (Lat) remained until his death on the Houston homestead where he and his wife reared a large family. He was married March 16, 1871, to Fannie Viola Campbell. His wife and ten children survive him. He was a devout member of the Baptist Church."

    Children: G. O. Houston, Lonnie, I. N., Vester, Mrs. Egan Hodges, of Shreveport, La.; Mrs. Ban Pugh and Lee, of Sarepta; Mrs.. Porter Cochran, of Springhill; Dr. W. M. Houston, of Shreveport, and a sister.

    PIONEER WOMAN DIES AT SAREPTA

    Mother of Local Resident Dies After Illness of One Month.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Fannie Campbell Houston, 76, widow of the late L.L. Houston, were held Saturday afternoon at Sarepta, Webster parish. Mrs. Houston, who is the mother of G.O. Houston, assistant superintendent of Caddo parish schools, died Friday afternoon at her home near Sarepta. Mrs. Houston was the mother of 16 children, 10 of who survive her.

    Mrs. Houston's husband died four months ago. Mr. and Mrs. Houston were pioneer residents of Webster parish. Mrs. Houston became ill a month ago and her death was expected.

    Mrs. Houston was Miss Fannie Viola Campbell. She was born at Rocky Mount, Bossier parish, Sept. 1, 1854. She was married March 16, 1871.

    Survivors are the following sons and daughters: Dr. W.M. Houston, El Dorado, Ark.; I.N., L., G.O. and V.E. Houston, all of Shreveport; Lee L. Houston, Sarepta; Mrs. J.F. Adkins, Cotton Valley, La.; Mrs. G.E. Hodges, Shreveport; Mrs. Porter Cochran, Sarepta; Mrs. S.B. Pugh, Sarepta. A brother, the Rev. T.M. Campbell, of Shongaloo, 43 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive.

    Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Joel McCann at the Sarepta Baptist church where Mrs. Houston was a member.
