    Crash Victims' Rites Are Set

    By JOE BROUGHTON
    Of The News Staff

Joint funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic church for three area teenage boys who were killed Sunday afternoon in a three-car smashup on Highway 69 opposite the H. S. Anderson Trucking company.

Four other persons are hospitalized with injuries.

Dead are Gary Wayne Bordonaro, 14, son of Mrs. Anna Mae Bordonaro of 3029 34th street, and Frank A. Bordonaro of Houston; Sam Anthony Collida, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dominic Collida of 3735 Rachel avenue, and Dean Matthew Meaux, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Meaux of 3801 Graves avenue, Groves.

    Hurled To Pavement

All three were hurled to the pavement from a sports coupe which skidded out of control on rainslicked pavement Sunday at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Bordonaro, the driver, was most seriously injured of the survivors. Park Place hospital attendants today said her condition was "guarded" and she remained in the intensive care unit at the hospital. Her injuries included multiple fractures and lacerations.

Her other son, Kevin Bordonaro, 7, was reported in "fair" condition at Park Place with an arm fracture and lacerations, and the sixth occupant of the car, Richard McCarthy, 13, of 3048 Bryan, Groves, was still in intensive care but the hospital said his condition was improved.

Robert Earl Stanley, 22, of 112 Woodcrest, Port Neches, was in Mid-Jefferson County hospital with a broken collar bone. He was driving one of the other cars.

    Rosary Is Tonight

    Returning From Game

Mrs. Bordonaro and the five youngsters were returning from a basketball game in which some of the older boys participated in Beaumont.

Investigating officers said the Bordonaro car had pulled into the outside lane to pass another southbound auto driven by Robert john Dies of 112 15th street.

Dies told police that the yellow coupe skidded out of control as the driver started to cut back to the inside lane in front of his car. It made a 180-degree spin, and Dies' car hit the front of the coupe. The Bordonaro car slid backward through a gap in the median an was hit broadside by the north bound car driven by Stanley, police were told.

    Dies was not injured.

    Coupe Total Loss

Patrolman Carl Blanchard said Mrs. Bordonaro's car was a total loss. Police estimated damages at $150 to Dies' car and $600 to the Stanley vehicle.
