He had been seriously ill for a considerable length of time and his death, although it was a shock to relatives and friends, was not altogether unexpected.

Funeral arrangements had not been completed late Friday morning, but it was believed interment would be made in Rayne. His parents and other close relatives were all in New Orleans, where they were called when his condition became critical, and relatives here were not acquainted with the funeral plans. Born in Crowley on April 22, 1917, young Devillier had spent practically all his life in this immediate vicinity, and had been an employe of the Simon Rice Mill since his graduation from St. Joseph's High school in Rayne. Roland, as he was known rather than by his first name, was a member of St. Joseph's boxing and basketball teams, excelling in both sports. He was a well liked young man and his loss will be mourned by a wide circle of friends, both young and old.

Surviving are his widow, the former Rena Clement of Rayne; a two-year-old daughter; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Devillier of Crowley; four brothers, Edgar, Horace, Robert and Oscar, Jr., and three sisters, Theresa, Edna Mae, and Celina, all of Crowley.

Funeral Services Held For (BB) Clement

Funeral services for Anatole Clement, known to his hundreds of friends throughout this community as B-B, who died at the family residence in South Rayne Wednesday, February 3, at 1:10 p.m., after a long illness, were held from St. Joseph's Catholic Church Thursday, February 4 at 2 p.m. with interment in the adjoining Catholic cemetery.

The body lay in state at the Ardoin Funeral Home until the hour set for the services. A large gathering of friends and relatives formed the funeral cortege which went from the Funeral home to the Church at the set hour. Rev. H. Lerschen officiated during the last rites, and in a brief address, spoke of the respect and esteem in which Mr. Clement was held by all who knew him. The remains were laid to rest in the family vault at St. Joseph's cemetery.

Mr. Clement was a lifelong resident of this section, having been born and reared near Rayne. During his early manhood he farmed near town, later giving this up to move into town. He led a long and active public life, having served for twenty years as Deputy Sheriff of Acadia Parish. For fifteen years after that, he was Night Policeman of the Town of Rayne, and held an enviable record in solving robberies and crimes. His services were required in practically all cases in this community and his unusual ability in this line of work won much recognition for him during his long and useful period of work.

He had been in ill health for some time and his death had been expected for several months. About six years ago, he suffered a paralytic stroke from which he never recovered, making him a helpless invalid for the remaining years of his life.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Odia Breaux Clement; five sons, Cleobule, Willie, Walter and Elphie of Rayne, and Anatole, Jr. of Lake Charles; and three daughters: Mrs. Elias Simon of Crowley, Mrs. Morris Henry and Mrs. Leland Clark of Lake Charles.

Tribune takes this means to express sincere sympathy to the family of Mr. Clement. His death is a loss not only to them but to the entire town.
