    Obituary:

Neldina Holubec Marek died at her home in the early morning hours of April 28, 2015. She had endured many health problems for several years and was ready to go to her home in heaven to be with all of her loved ones-especially her husband for 60 years, Theodore Joseph Marek, who died on 4/6/2009. Other loved ones waiting for her in heaven are her parents John and Fannie Holubec, sisters Ella Holubec, Vlasta LaFaitte, Dorothy Holubec, Milady Skrivanek, and brother Ernest Holubec.

Neldina was the fourth child born to John and Fannie Holubec on December 30, 1926 in Caldwell, Texas. Her family moved to Austin, Texas when she was a young child. She graduated from Austin High School in 1944. She married Theodore J. Marek on May 29, 1948. In 1951 her first child, Janette, was born followed by her son, Larry, in 1955. She loved her children and was a devoted mother. The family made Austin their home until 1966. In 1966 they moved to San Marcos, Texas because Ted became the Chief Auditor at SWT. Nel hated to leave Austin but quickly made friends in San Marcos and came to love San Marcos too. She worked for SMCISD as the Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools for 25 years. She was a hard-worker who loved her job and co-workers. She developed close friendships with many of these people that have lasted for decades. When she retired, they hired two people to do the work she had done. For many years after retirement, she and Ted traveled extensively around the world and enjoyed their grandchildren, Jennifer and Johnny. She was very social and loved to get together with her family and friends. She loved to play games, especially 42. The thing she enjoyed most after moving to an assisted living facility in Kyle, Texas in 2013 was being able to play games in the morning and afternoon.

Nel was baptized in the Moravian Brethren Church as a baby and was a faithful member of the Austin Brethren Church until her death. Even after moving to San Marcos, Ted and Nel drove 30+ miles to church every Sunday. When Ted could not drive any longer, Nel drove them. When Nel couldn't drive any longer she had her children or caregivers drive her. She loved her church.

Nel is survived by her daughter Janette Hall and husband John of Mountain City, TX, son Larry Marek and wife Becky of San Antonio, TX, her sister, Gardina Holubec of Austin, granddaughter Jennifer and husband Elliott Kruppa of Houston, TX, grandson Johnny Hall of Kyle, TX, great-grandson Elijah Kruppa, and great-granddaughter Claire Kruppa.

Nel was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She lived a blessed life and was a blessing to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed but we take solace knowing that she is in heaven with her Lord and Savior and happy to be reunited with her loved ones.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 6:30-8:00 PM at the Pennington Funeral Home at 323 N. Comanche in San Marcos, TX. The funeral service will be held at the Pennington Funeral Home in San Marcos at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 1, 2015. Entombment will be at the Capital Parks Mausoleum in Pflugerville at 3:00 PM.
