    Obituary:

    Service for Ken Hammond, 74, of Bowie was Friday, Feb. 22, at Fry Funeral Chapel in Bowie. The Rev. Don Haney officiated. Burial followed at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery.

    Hammond died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, in Dallas.

    Born Feb. 17, 1928, in Flint, Mich., he was a carpenter. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Bowie, the VFW Post 8789 in Bowie and The American Legion.

    He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arline Hammond; a son, George Hammond and a brother, Clair Hammond.

    He is survived by his wife, Helen E. Hammond; four sons, Kenneth Hammond Jr. of Justin, Bill Hicks of Houston, Paul Hicks of Bridgeport and Jim Tom Hicks of Bowie; five daughters, Nancy Vanhorn, Vickie Mitchell and Kimberly Valadez, all of Michigan and Cindy Lewis and Nancy Hicks, both of Bowie; four brothers, Glen Hammond of Detroit, Mich., Fred Hammond and Bob Hammond, both of Michigan and Bill Hammond of Alabama; five sisters, Mable Knight of Michigan and Etta Scarbough, Nellie Lyons, Betty Sessions and Shirley Savage, all of Mississippi and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Helen (daughter of Addison Scott Vickers and Shirley Ina Nix) was born 16 Jun 1940, Seymour, Baylor County, Texas, USA; died 5 Feb 2016, Decatur, Wise County, Texas, USA; was buried 10 Feb 2016, Elmwood Cemetery - Bowie, Texas, USA.
