    Obituary:

    Fletcher German passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2010 in College Station. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, February 4, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. Funeral services are set for 1 p.m., Friday, February 5, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 220 Rock Prairie Rd., College Station, with Pastor David Elton officiating. A private interment for the family will follow at College Station Cemetery.

    Fletcher was born August 5, 1928, to Fletcher German Sr. and Mattie Warren German in Wellborn, Texas. Fletcher grew up in the Wellborn community and graduated from A&M Consolidated High School. He began working for the Texas A&M Physical Plant as a painter in 1951 and served as Paint Foreman for several years before retiring in 1983. Fletcher also was a volunteer fireman for Texas A&M University serving the City of College Station and south Brazos County for 20 years. He was a member of the Adam Rayder Mason Lodge of Wellborn and Sons of Hermann Lodge 99 of Bryan.

    Fletcher was a lifelong member of A&M Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder and helped organize the church is food pantry. He also served on the planning and building committee for the Covenant Presbyterian Church in College Station. Fletcher's passions included hunting, fishing, playing music, and family gatherings.

    Preceding Fletcher in death were his parents, Fletcher German Sr. and Mattie Kaechle, and his first wife, Gloria Burke German.

    Survivors include his wife, Lena Whitsel German; son, Dan German and wife LaNell; daughter, Babs Hogan and husband Dan; step-daughters, Susie Brushaber and husband Merrill, Wanda Zwernemann and husband Dennis, Jeanie Gold and husband Alvin, Mildred Anderson and husband Andy; brother, Sam German and wife Louise; sisters Gladys Koerth, Gaynell Boyd and husband Charles, Cathy Holligan and husband Byron, Mary Lois Huckaby; step-sisters, Juanita Jones, Ruby Joy, Mary Martin; step-brothers, Clyde Carrie and Lonnie Carrie; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Fletcher's life truly reflected his faith in God through tireless efforts to serve his church, community, friends, and family.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the South Brazos County, Precinct 1, Fire Department, 3030 Wingfall, Millican, Texas 77866 or the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 220 Rock Prairie Rd., College Station, Teas 77845.

    Funeral services for Mrs. (Gloria Jeanne) Fletcher German, Route 4, College Station, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Callaway-Jones Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Bruce Fisher, pastor of A&M Presbyterian Church, College Station, officiating.

    Burial will be in College Station City Cemetery.

    Mrs. German died this morning at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. She was born Feb. 15, 1930, in San Antonio and had lived in Brazos County since 1947. She was employed as a finance clerk at the Memorial Student Center, Texas A&M University, and was a member of the A&M Presbyterian Church.

    Survivors include her husband; a son, John Daniel German; a daughter, Barbara Joyce German; a sister, Mrs. Charles Higgins, and her mother, Mrs. Mildred Higgins, all of College Station.

    Pallbearers will be Kenneth Holligan, Allen Huckaby, Eddie McCulloch Jr., Doyle Smith, John Dale Dennington and Larry Beasley.
