    Toby, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home, while surrounded by his family on November 19, 2015.

    Toby was born August 11, 1932 in Port Arthur, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ada Talbot Abshire, loving step-mother, Bertha Abshire, and siblings: Agnes Arnold, Dorothy Palmer, Abbie Abshire and A.J. Abshire.

    Toby is survived by his wife: Betty Hebert Abshire of sixty-one years, children: Mary Abshire Collins, James Abshire, Kirwin Abshire and wife Darlene, Paula Abshire Rolin and husband Michael, Glen Abshire and wife Sherri, grandchildren: Cortland Collins, Evan Collins, Leah Wood, Matthew Wood, Jacalynn Rolin, Nathan Rolin, Jessica Abshire Dluhos and husband Chet, great-grandchildren: Emerson Kate Dluhos and Presley Marie Wood. Toby is also survived by brothers: Linwood Abshire and wife Joan, Louis Abshire and wife Jeanette, sister-in-laws: Margo Abshire, Jane Abshire, and numerous nieces and nephews.

    In 1956 Toby and family moved to Houston, Texas where he was employed by the Houston Chronicle and a member of the National Angle Bar Club for thirty-seven years. He served in the Texas National Guard, was a founding member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 3700 and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

    Toby was an exceptional Gardener, respected Baseball Coach, avid Golfer and had a passion for working with his hands and building things. His gentle spirit and kind heart will be deeply missed by his entire family and friends.
    Visitation with the family will be Monday, November 23, 2015, 5:00 pm., Vigil at 6:00 pm., St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 10727 Hartsook Street, Houston, Texas 77034.

    A Mass celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 10:30 am., St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church: 10727 Hartsook Street, Houston, Texas 77034. Father Vincent Nguyen will be the Mass celebrant. Burial at 3:00 pm, Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3900 Twin City Hwy., Groves, Texas 77619.

    Betty Jo Hebert Abshire was born on January 30, 1934 in Port Arthur, Texas to Carl Mark and Bessie Davis (Dixon) Hebert, and passed away on January 18, 2021. She married the love of her life, Charles (Toby) Abshire on February 28th 1954. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Betty was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family, her neighbors, and her Church Community.

    In 1956 Betty and Toby moved to Houston to raise their family. Once her children were older, Betty accepted a position at Houston Tape & Label, where she made life-long friends. Betty and Toby were founding members of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Betty volunteered many hours for the St. Vincent de Paul, Alter Guild, Women's Club, Apostles of Good Will, and Catholic Daughters while offering her time to other charitable endeavors. Betty's outgoing personality, her sweet spirit towards all, her love of adventure, her faithfulness to family and friends, and her deep love and devotion to Christ are just a few of the many things that will be missed by all.

    Betty is survived by her five children: Mary Abshire Collins, James Abshire, Kirwin Abshire, Paula Abshire Rolin and Glen Abshire, her son-in-law Michael Rolin, Daughter-in-Laws Darlene Abshire and Sherri Abshire, Grandchildren, Leah Wood, Matthew Wood, Cortland Collins, Jacalynn Rolin, Evan Collins, Nathan Rolin and Jessica Abshire Dluhos Her four Great Grandchildren, who she loved and cherished, Emerson Kate Dluhos, Presley Marie Wood, Beckett Charles Dluhos and Connor Michael Rolin Brown. Betty is also survived by her brother Dixon Hebert and his wife Sue, sister Elizabeth Hebert Roy and her husband Aubrey and numerous nieces and nephews.

    The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30am. Saturday, January 23, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at 1:00pm, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3900 Twin City Hwy., Groves, Texas 77619.

    BRIDGE CITY - Rosary for Paul Abshire, 73, of 753 Avenue B, will be recited today at 8 p.m. in the Levingston Funeral home chapel in Groves. Funeral services will be held in St. Henry's Catholic church Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Dazio, of St. Henry's, officiating. The Rev. Dale Calhoun of St. Pius Catholic church in Beaumont and the James Ingle of St. Anthony's Catholic church in Beaumont, will assist. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial park.

    Mr. Abshire died Saturday at 1:10 a.m. in Doctors hospital in Groves. He had lived in the area for 50 years and was an operator at Ameripol in Port Neches.

    BRIDGE CITY - Rosaries for Paul Abshire, 73, of 753 Avenue B in Bridge City, who died today at 1:10 a.m. in Doctors hospital after a short illness, will be recited today and Sunday at 8 p.m. in the Levingston Funeral home chapel in Groves. The Knights of Columbus and Legion of Mary from Bridge City will conduct the rosary Sunday.

    Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Henry's Catholic church with the Rev. Joseph Dazio, of St. Henry's, officiating. Assisting will be the Rev. Abshire of Port Arthur, Charles Abshire of Houston, A.J. Abshire of Groves, Linwood Abshire of Port Neches, and Louis Abshire of Groves; three sisters, Mrs. E.J. Breaux of Port Arthur, Mrs. T. Morceaux of Gibson, La. and Mrs. L. LeBlanc of Nederland; two brothers, J.J. Abshire of Port Arthur and E.A. Abshire of Marrero, La., 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

    Pallbearers will be Paul White, Luther White, Jack Palmer, Kenneth Palmer, Gene Brown and Earl Keel.

    Resident 20 Years Dies Of Heart Trouble

    Mrs. Paul Abshire, 36, a resident of this section for 20 years, died of heart trouble yesterday at 6 p.m. at her home at Kolb's crossing after an illness of three weeks.

    Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery under direction of Grammier's.

    Mrs. Abshire was a native of Rayne, La.

    She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. J.M. White and Miss Dorothy Abshire; five sons, Abbie, A.J., Wilford, L.J. and L.E. Abshire, all of Kolb's crossing; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Talbot; two sisters, Mrs. E. Champagne and Mrs. Albert LeBouef; four brothers, E., F., W. and C. Talbot, all of Port Arthur; and one grandchild, James White of Kolb's crossing.
