    DICKINSON - James "Jimmy" E. Abbott, 74, passed away at his home in Dickinson, Texas on Thursday, February 15, 2001.

    Jimmy was born in Galveston, Texas, on October 18, 1926, and resided in Dickinson since 1950. He served in the Navy during World War II and retired from his real estate business, Abbott Realty, in 1988. Mr. Abbott served as the first village marshall of Dickinson from 1977 to 1978. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Fifty Club of Galveston County and served as president in 1995. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Dickinson and most recently Trinity Baptist Church in League City, Texas. Jimmy was a loving and-devoted husband and father. The special joy of his life was his two grandchildren, Lauren and Christopher.

    Jimmy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Louise; daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Mikel Gavin; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Don Suderman; and two grandchildren, Lauren Suderman and Christopher Gavin. He is also survived by brother, VA Abbott of Fort Worth; sisters, Elizabeth Collier, Jane Pinte, and Lillian Allison, all of Galveston; special nephew and namesake, James E. Abbott of Las Vegas, Nevada, numerous nieces and nephews, family members and many friends.

    Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2001 from 4:00 to 6 :00 p.m. in the chapel of James Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 19, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Dickinson with the Rev. Clifford Poe and the Rev. Randy Marshall officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

    Serving as pallbearers will be Ron Lemon, Joe Max Taylor, Norman Trainer, Ray Lowe, Joseph "Skippy" Pinanchio and Marvin Martin.

    Honorary pallbearers will be the board of directors of the Fifty Club of Galveston County, Ron Morales and Bill Korndorffer.

    The family has requested memorials be sent to Trinity Baptist Church, P.O. Box 569, League City, TX 77574.
