    Big Spring (RNS)- Funeral for Mrs. Billy D. (Polly) Clem, 21, of Big Spring, who died Sunday of injuries resulting from a July 4 auto accident, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Cotton, associate minister officiating.

    Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Trinity Memorial Park.

    Born Oct. 11, 1950, in Big Spring, she married Billy D. Clem June 17, 1972, in Big Spring. She graduated from Big Spring High School in 1971 and from Baltai Reese School of Hair Dressing and Cosmetology.

    Survivors are her husband, Sgt. Billy D. Clem of Webb AFB; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Byron McCracken of Big Spring; one brother, Bobby Joseph McCracken of Big Spring; maternal grandmother, Mrs. R. W. McNew of Big Spring; an number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

    Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church for Ethel Mae McCracken, 60, who died at 11:20 Monday in a Lubbock hospital following an extended illness.

    Dr. Claude Craven, pastor, will officiate. Burial will occur in Trinity Memorial Park under the direction of Nalley-Pickle Funeral Home.

    Mrs. McCracken was born April 3, 1917 in Big Spring. She attended public schools in Highway and Knott, and graduated from Big Spring High School.

    She later attended Draughan's Business College in Abilene.

    She began work with the J.B. Collins Insurance and Loan Agency, then located at 112 E. 2nd, in 1938. World War II interrupted the business, and during this time Mrs. McCracken served as a chief supply clerk at Fort Hood.

    The business was reopened after the war at 204 Runnels, and Mrs. McCracken returned to work. After several years she became a partner in the firm.

    Later, Mr. Collins sold his share of the business to another longtime employee and sister of Mrs. McCracken, Bonnie Bennett. The name of the firm was then changed to Howard County Insurance Agency.

    All in all, Mrs. McCracken's ties with the agency spanned nearly 40 years.

    She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, Altrusa International and the Big Spring Insurance Association.

    Survivors include a son, Bobby J. McCracken, of the home; her mother, Mrs. R.W. McNew, Big Spring; a brother, R.X. McNew, Big Spring; three sisters, Bonnie Bennett, Gertrude McCann, Callie Bennett, all of Big Spring; an ex-husband, Byron McCracken, Big Spring; a number of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

    Pallbearers are nephews and cousins, Rexie McNew, Coy Joe McCann, Roy McNew, Tim Davidson, Jerry Bennett, William McNew, Robert Howland and Bobby Dale McNew.

    Roy W. McNew, Longtime County Farmer, Rancher

    Roy Wayne McNew, rancher and farme rin this county since 1903, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, following an illness of two years and hospitalization since August.

    He was born March 22, 1894 in Denton and moved to Howard County in 1903. He married the former Delia Hamlin Aug. 22, 1914 in this county, and they marked their 50th wedding anniversary in 1964. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

    Survivors include his wife; one son, R.X. McNew, Luther; four daughters, Mrs. Ethel Mae McCracken, Stanton; Mrs. Bonnie Ruth Bennett, Mrs. Callie Bennett and Mrs. Gertrude McCann, all of Big Spring; two brothers, Frank McNew, Knott; I.N. McNew, Big Spring; four sisters, Mrs. Jasper Cline, Mrs. Roy Williams, Mrs. Jack Nall, Mrs. Wylie Cline, all of Big Spring; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

    Funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Trinity Baptist Church, with Rev. Claude N. Craven, pastor, officiating, with interment in the Trinity Memorial Park under the direction of Nalley-Pickle Funeral Home.

    Pallbearers include Rodney Cline, Wayne McNew, Charles Williams, B.J. Williams, Clinton Hamlin, Robert Cline, William McNew, Rube McNew, Arthur McNew.

    Mrs R.W. (Della) McNew, 92, died Thursday morning at her home following a lengthy illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Claude Craven, pastor, and Rev. Guy White, pastor at East Fourth Street Baptist Church, officiating.

    Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.

    She was born Jan. 21, 1893, in Gorman. She married Roy W. McNew Aug. 22, 1914, in Huto. He died Sept. 24, 1967.

    She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and the Big Spring Rebekah Lodge No. 284. She attended college at Stepp. She also attended the Catholic convent in Stanton for one year because it was the only school in the county at that time.

    She moved to Howard County in 1903 in a covered wago with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee S. Hamlin. they farmed and ranched north of Big Spring until 1936 when they moved to Big Spring.

    Her daughter, Callie Bennett, was living with her at the time of her death.

    Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, R.X. "Jack" McNew and Ruth McNew of Big Spring; three daughters, Callie Bennett; Mrs. Jeff (Bonnie) Skeen and Mrs. Dwight (Gerturde) McCann, all of Big Spring; one son-in-law, Byron McCracken of Big Spring; one brother, O.E. Hamlin of Big Spring; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.

    Other relatives include one daughter, Ethel Mae McCracken, who died Oct. 31, 1977; a granddaughter, Polly Clem, who died in July 1975; a grandson, Timothy Davidson, who died on Dec. 25, 1980, and one brother, M.L. Hamlin, deceased.

    Pallbearers will be Jimmy Rodgers, Robert Cline, William McNew, Rodney Cline, Danny Clark and Rube McNew.

    BOLT BRINGS INSTANT DEATH TO LEE HAMLIN

    Friend In Automobile Few Feet Away Unhurt; Funeral Thursday

    Lee Hamlin, 64, pioneer farmer, was killed instantly by a bolt of lightning at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday as he stepped from a car to direct a visitor back to town.

    He was killed near his home thirteen miles north of Big Spring.

    Hamlin had been sitting in the automobile with J.H. Kirkpatrick before he stepped from the car and walked to the front of the car to point out the best route back to the city.

    "There was a flash and a clap," Kirkpatrick said, "and when I could see again he was lying on the ground in front of the car."

    Force of the bolt shredded Mr. Hamlin's hat into scores of pieces. His body was badly burned by the electrical discharge. Mr. Kirkpatrick was unhurt. The bolt came from a small thunder head.

    Born in Missouri more than sixty-four years ago, Hamlin had farmed in this county for more than thirty years.

    Still very active despite his years, he had been supervising the unloading of posts and wire immediately previous to his death.

    Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Sarah Hamlin, one daughter, Mrs. Roy McNew, and two sons, Monta and Orbie.

    Mr. Hamlin also leaves five sisters and one brother. They are R.D. Hamlin of Midland and Mmes. Nora Harrison of Jayton, Will Haynes, Jim Woodie and Jim Crow all of Gorman, and Charles Vandiver of Rogers, N.M. Eight grandchildren survive.

    Masonic lodge here will be in charge of services at the graveside. Rev. M.J. Wise of the Church of Christ will speak the last rites for Hamlin from the Eberley Funeral Chapel 10 a.m. Thursday.

    Mrs. Hamlin Rites Due To Be Said At 4 p.m. Today

    Funeral service for Mrs. Sarah Hamlin, 80, who died at her home here Wednesday, were to be held at 4 p.m. today at the Eberley chapel.

    Lloyd Connell and Herbert Love, Church of Christ ministers, were to officiate.

    Mrs. Hamlin, member of a pioneer Howard county ranching family, died shortly after noon Wednesday, following a serious illness of approximately two months duration.

    Pallbearers were to be Walker Reed, Tom Spencer, Charlie Lawrence, E.S. Conway, J.E. Norris, R.V. Middleton, Ed Love and O.B. Warren.
