    Services for Tommie Thompson, 70, former assistant director of community service at the Florida Power and Light Co. will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

    Mr. Thompson, who retired in 1977 after 42 years of service, died Friday at the Calderwood Lodge in Homestead.

    Formerly of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mr. Thompson had lived in Miami since 1928. He quarterbacked the first game the University of Miami played in the Pal Festival, now known as the Orange Bowl.

    He was an active member of the old Miami Junior Chamber of Commerce, national sports director for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, member of the Miami Touchdown Club, and Lions organizer. For more than 30 years, he served as the director of the Annual Miami Greybeards Reunion. He also organized the annual FPL float for the Orange Bowl Parade.

    Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Juanita; a son, Thomas George; a daughter-in-law, Beverly; a sister, Jean Cochrane; two brothers, Reese and Jack; and two grandchildren.

    The family has suggested donations for research on Alzheimer's disease in care of the University of Miami Medical School, 1475 NW 12th Ave.
