    HOLCOMB, MO. - James C. Crowe, Jr., 74, of Holcomb, Mo., passed away Jan. 16, 1990 at the Kennett Health Care Center.

    He was born May 2, 1915, in Holcomb, the son of James C. Crowe, Sr. and Bertie (Matthews) Crowe.

    Mr. Crowe was a farmer, former Portage Township trustee, first postmaster of Portage and served on the Portage School Board. He was a member of the Memphis, Tenn. Church of the Nazarene and a World War II Navy veteran.

    On Dec. 31, 1933, in Gideon, Mo., he married Mary Louise Porterfield who survives.

    He was preceded in death by one son, James Lee Crowe.

    Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann Filler of Tennessee and Susan E. Sarkkinen of Michigan; one sister, Mildred Burch of Florida, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

    Services 11 a.m. Saturday at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel, Kennett, Mo.; Rev. Randy Garner officiating; burial to Memorial Gardens, Kennett; visitation 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

    James Calvin Crow, 79 of Mountain Grove, died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday in a Mountain Grove Rest Home.

    Born Aug. 25, 1892 in Missouri, Mr. Crow was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of Christ. His wife, Bertie Matthews, died Jan. 18, 1868.

    Surviving are - a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Burch of Portage, Ind.; sons, Eason Crow of Mountain Grove, and J. C. Crow Jr. of Maroa, Ill.; sisters, Mrs. George Luther of Holcomb, Mrs. Vernon Winn of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Verna Vaughn of St. Louis, and Mrs. Lora Wilson of Salinas, Calif.; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

    Mr. Crow's funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Landess Funeral Chapel at Campbell. C. B. Thomas will officiate and burial will be in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton.

    BERTIE MAY CROW, LONGTIME HOLCOMB RESIDENT, DIED

    Mrs. Bertie May Crow died Thursday in the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Mo. at the age of 75.

    She was born July 23, 1892 in Holcomb. Mrs. Crow had been a lifetime resident of Holcomb until about two years ago when she moved to Mountain View, where she was residing at the time of her death. On April 12, 1911 she married James C. Crow in Kennett. She was a member of the Holcomb Church of Christ.

    Survivors include her husband, two sons, James C. Crow, Jr., Portage, Ind. and Eason Crow, Mountain Grove; one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Burch, Portage, Ind.; two brothers, Vernon Matthews, Independence; and Vermal Matthews, Detroit, Mich.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Landess Funeral Chapel in Campbell. Burial will be in the Stanfield Cemetery near Clarkton. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today in the Landess Funeral Chapel in Campbell.
