    Notes:

Guy Farley, constable who followed family heritage into law enforcement, dies at 41

Guy Mundy Farley was living his childhood dream as a Dallas County deputy constable. For the past 15 years he followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, Jack Farley, who was a Mesquite-based constable in the 1960s.

Mr. Farley, 41, was killed Saturday near Crandall in a wrong-way crash with a motorist suspected of driving while intoxicated. The off-duty deputy was returning to his Kaufman home with a fast-food dinner for his family after he had watched his 4-year-old daughter's first dance recital.

Toxicology tests are pending on the wrong-way driver's blood. The accident remains under investigation.

Services for Mr. Farley will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home in Mesquite. He will be buried in Laurel Oaks Memorial Park.

"He was an outstanding individual and a great officer," said Precinct 4 Constable Roy Williams Jr. "He really understood the civil side of law enforcement."

Mr. Williams, who was a deputy sheriff for 20 years before being elected constable in 2011, had observed Mr. Farley through much of his career.

"He was always a consummate professional," Mr. Williams said. "When I became his elected constable, he was one of the people who made my transition easy. I appreciate him for that."

Mr. Williams was a family man with a phenomenal work ethic, said his Precinct 4 supervisor, Sgt. Jason Johnson.

"His family was the most important thing in his life," Mr. Johnson said.

Mr. Farley was funny, said his wife, Amber Farley of Kaufman.

A Star Wars fan, the deputy jokingly told his wife he married her because she was born the day the first movie was released. He celebrated his birthday with a Star Wars-themed party four days before he was killed.

Mr. Farley was born in Dallas and graduated from Mesquite High School in 1989. He worked in the parts department at Steakley Chevrolet in Dallas before becoming a reserve deputy constable in 1997. He was soon hired to a full-time position and was named to the Dallas County Constable's Special Response Service in 2001.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Farley is survived by two daughters, MaKayla Farley of Auburn, Ala., and Kymber Farley of Kaufman; a brother, Danny Robinson of Mesquite; a sister, Lecia Robinson of Mesquite; and his parents, Jerry and Annette Farley of Mesquite.
