      Peggy Hunter

Kathryn (Peggy) Jean Hunter, age 90, of Lubbock, formerly of Kermit, passed from this life in Lubbock, Texas on July 29, 2017. She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on December 14, 1926 to Bertha and Walter Kimbrough. She was an only child. Peggy attended school in Electra, Texas. In October of 1945, she traveled by train from Marshall, Texas to New Jersey to reunite with her high school sweetheart, Weldon Hunter. He was serving in the US Navy in WW II at the time. They married in Asbury Park, New Jersey on October 30, 1945. At the end of the war, they returned to Electra, but moved to Kermit, Texas in mid-1947 with their infant daughter, Welda. They lived in Kermit until 1995 and then moved to Lubbock, Texas.

While in Kermit, Peggy worked as a legal secretary for Judge Hair. She also worked as a receptionist for Dr. Joe Heath and Dr. A R Howard. Her final job in Kermit was as a bookkeeper for Leatherwood Drilling. She continued to keep books for Paul Leatherwood even after moving to Lubbock. She retired completely at the age of 80.

Peggy was an active member of the Desert Club, Kermit Saddle Club, Eastern Star, Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose Lodge, Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, Ladies Auxiliary of Scottish Rite, and a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, reading, and crossword puzzles. In 1980, she discovered she had a talent for painting. She painted on glass and with oils. Peggy painted primarily western scenes, florals, and animals, which she proudly shared with family and friends. She also had a great love and passion for her grandchildren and took every opportunity to attend all of their activities, always with camera in hand.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Welda (Hunter)Bates of Midland, and son, Dr. Danny Hunter and wife, Robin of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Ryan Bates of Midland, Jason Hunter and wife, Aly of Lubbock, Eric Hunter of Lubbock, and Briana Hunter and fianc, Hunter King of Lubbock; 2 great grandchildren of Midland, Ryleigh and Brylan Bates. She also leaves behind special friends and caregivers, Mable Herby, Rita Geyer, Brenda Flynn, and Elli Stevens, all of Lubbock. These ladies went above and beyond to love and care for Peggy. The family also thanks PA Micha Lust, Calvert Home Health, and Hospice of Lubbock for the excellent care they provided.

Peggy is predeceased by her parents and her husband of 60 years.
