    • Obituary:

FORT WORTH - Mary Saundra Peugh, 77, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020, in Fort Worth.

Saundra, as she liked to be called, was born in Fort Worth as Mary Saundra Hicks. She graduated from Birdville High School. In 1962, she married the father of her future daughters. They moved to Joshua, Texas, in the late 1960's where Saundra was a housewife and mother. In her mid-thirties, Saundra took a courageous step to return to college and earn her B.S.N. She did this at a time when it was not popular to return to college at an older age. In 1981, the family moved back to Fort Worth. She was divorced in 1983. Saundra graduated from U.T.A. in 1984. She then began a 21-year career at John Peter Smith Hospital as a psychiatric nurse then a nursing supervisor.

For nursing excellence, she was inducted into "The Great 100 Nurses" and awarded "The Golden Stethoscope". She volunteered at a women's shelter and helped train local law enforcement on mental health issues. In July of 2004, she married her current husband, Ken Peugh. In 2005, she and Ken took early retirement and moved to his childhood home in Silverton, Texas. In 2013, they moved back to Fort Worth to be near family.

Saundra enjoyed traveling locally and outside of the U.S. During her travels, she liked to browse antique shops to help decorate her home. She also liked to shop, dine out, and entertain friends and family. She became interested in ancestry and researching her family roots. During her younger years, she took pleasure in water skiing and country & western dancing.

Saundra was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Paul and Mary Frances Hicks; and her grandmother, Woodie Lee Dillard.

She is survived by her husband, Ken Peugh; daughters, Kristie Coomer and Terri (Rick) Williams; six grandchildren; and two grand pets.
