    • Obituary:

ODESSA - Gay Marie Vaught Fields, 57, of Odessa, TX, passed to life eternal after a long illness on January 25, 2016 in Odessa, attended by her loving family. Gay was born February 20, 1958 to Robert L. and Barbara (Hutchins) Vaught in Odessa as one of four daughters. She lived in the Odessa/Midland area all of her life. During her high school career, Gay excelled in academics and enjoyed serving as a Permian Panther cheerleader. After graduation in 1976, Gay went to work for NBO Bank and thus began a distinguished banking career that would span 34 years and see her advance to the position of Senior Vice President at Prosperity Bank.

On May 9, 1992, Gay married Wesley Dean Fields. They blended their families to include her daughters Alaina and Haley and his daughter Jessica, and together they eventually became known as Gammie and Pawpaw to eight precious grandchildren.

Gay worked tirelessly for the community and contributed significantly to several civic organizations, including serving as Director of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, on the Council of the Permian Basin Girl Scouts, as President of the Odessa Rotary Club, holding many offices and winning several awards while in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Alpha Mu Kappa Chapter, and for the first year and many years afterward as an organizer of the 9/11 American Tribute event. The culmination of her public service career was in 2007 when she was awarded the prestigious Athena Leadership Award. This award honors women for professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.

Gay was a long-time member of Temple Baptist/Crossroads Fellowship Church. She was a devout Christian who loved her Lord. She found joy most in the family God gave her. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a precious daughter, and a dear friend to her sisters. Gay was also blessed with many faithful friends who were there for her during her illness, including Kandy Fields, Karen McCord, Barbara Norris, Yolanda Ferralez, Mary Collins, and The Courtyards and their staff.

Gay is preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert and Alma Vaught and George and Viola Hutchins.

Survivors include husband Dean Fields, parents Robert L. and Barbara Vaught of Odessa, sisters and brothers-in-law Terri and Ted Krueger of Smithville, Lynn and Jerry Hix of Odessa, Lisa and Jim Campbell of College Station, daughters and sons-in-law Alaina and Derek Watters of Midland, Haley and Daniel Hunt of Dripping Springs, Jessica and Clint Bizzell of Odessa, grandchildren Kolten, Kambri and Kasen Watters of Midland, Kalyn, Averi and Addison Hunt of Dripping Springs, Cameron and Kinley Bizzell of Odessa, many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and loving friends.

Visitation will be Friday, January 29, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
