    • Obituary:

J.D. Ford, Jr., 74, of Whitney, Texas passed from this life on November 30, 2019 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, Texas following many years of living with chronic health issues. J.D. was born on March 30, 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas to J.D. and Vadena (nee May) Ford, Sr.

      J. D. was the youngest of four sons. He graduated from Abbott High School in 1964. He served in the Army from 1966-1969. During that time, he spent a year in Vietnam. While in the Army, he achieved the rank of Specialist E-5 as an equipment repairman. While in Vietnam, he volunteered for high risk search and recovery missions in his off-duty hours, searching for and rescuing American POW's. Following discharge from the military, J.D. settled in Arlington, Texas and later moved to Hillsboro, Texas. He spent his final years in Whitney, Texas.

Shortly before being deployed, J.D. married his high school sweetheart Sandra Lynn Crenshaw in March of 1966. They had two children, a son and a daughter. During his life, he spent many years in the truck driving industry, both in local sales routes with Keebler, and Dr Pepper, and Frito-Lay, and in later years, he drove over-the-road routes. He also spent some time in the late 1980's managing Jim's Foreign Car Service for his brother Jim. He was forced to retire from truck driving in 2000 following a stroke which left him blind in his left eye. During his retirement, he ran the thrift store for the local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars until his health declined and he was no longer able to work. He dealt with many health issues in the last 20 years of his life. He fought valiantly to maintain a quality of life and proved to be quite resilient through the years.

J.D. is survived by his daughter Stacie Ford-Burleson and husband Todd Burleson and his son Jerald Ford; as well as three grandchildren: Kacy Ford, Emma Ford, and Garrett Burleson. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Hollis Ford, Charles "Sonny" Ford, and Jim Ford.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Legion Legacy Scholarship fund in memory of J.D. Ford, Jr. https://www.members.legion.org/tal/donatenow#legion-org.
