    • Obituary:

Dalton Hargraves, 68, a Liberty native and League City resident, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011. Born in Liberty on June 13, 1942, to Henry Hargraves and Nora Carrell Hargraves, Dalton spent his childhood in Liberty where he later became a police officer and then chief of police in nearby Cleveland in the 1970s and Crystal Beach in the 1980s. Law enforcement remained his lifelong passion, whether working directly for the police departments, in corporate security or at his own private investigation company in both Beaumont and League City. His happiest times usually were spent outdoors - fishing the salt waters of the Gulf Coast and hunting deer in west Texas. He will be remembered for his love of life, and for his love of family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Linda Tuck of League City; four children, Allison Hargraves of The Woodlands, Jason Hargraves of Washington, D.C., Devon Hargraves of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kevin Tuck of League City; grandson Justin Montanari of The Woodlands; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Eddie Hargraves of Baytown, and Raymond Hargraves of Liberty.

The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center where he received care during his final days. Friends are invited to visitation services Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home, 111 E. Medical Center Blvd. in Webster. His funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. at Crowder with burial following at Forest Park East Cemetery in League City. The Rev. Len Shoemaker will officiate. In lieu of other remembrances, memorial gifts may be made in Dalton's name to Independence Village, 905 Highway 3 South, Texas City, Texas, 77591.
