- Obituary:
VICTORIA - Larry Don Woody died October 15, 2013 at Conroe Medical Center of a stroke following surgery. He was born in Gorman, Texas on December 4, 1934 and was a native of Stamford, Texas.
Preceding him in death was his daughter, Joan Woody Schoening, his parents, Tommy and Ila Maye Woody and his nephew Robert Green.
He is survived by his wife of fifty seven years, Sylvia Lassiter Woody; his son Kelly; his son Tom Woody and his wife Dannelle Goyen Woody, his grandchildren Hannah, Tyler and Brock Woody; his sister Jayne Woody, her daughters Susan Green Scott and Julia Green Morrison.
Larry retired as a Major after twenty years of service with the Marine Corps. He was a pilot and spent three years as a gunnery flight instructor in Pensacola, Florida. During his years of service he received twenty one decorations for combat duty in the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Following his retirement he went back to college and earned a Bachelor's degree at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. He then pursued a law degree at Baylor Law School in Waco, Texas and graduated in the top fifteen percent of his class.
After graduating, he joined a law firm in Victoria, Texas. Later, he opened up his own firm in Victoria. During his thirty eight years as a lawyer he was a trial lawyer and became board certified in Consumer and Business Bankruptcy.
Following retirement from his law practice, Larry became an avid programmer selling many of his computer programs. He loved working with his hands and traveling abroad with his wife. Most of all Larry loved animals and enjoyed his own pets for many years.
A memorial service will be held at Sonrise Worship Center in Victoria, Texas Thursday October 24, 2013 at 5:30 p.m., with Dan Goyen Sr. officiating. The church is located at 1101 E Nueces St Victoria, TX 77901. Donations in memory of Larry Woody may be sent to Sonrise Worship Center, P.O. Box 405, Victoria, Texas 77902. Flowers may be sent Thursday to 1101 E Nueces St Victoria, TX 77901.
