Notes - Obituary:
A memorial service for Mattie L. Vandiver, 93, of Statesboro, a former Attapulgus resident, will be held Sunday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m. at the Attapulgus Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 121 Habitat St., Americus, GA 31709-3498.
Mrs. Vandiver died Sept. 19, 2006, in Statesboro. She was born in Early County and lived most of her life in Attapulgus. She was a homemaker, and was preceded in death by two husbands, John D. Phelps and C.P. Vandiver.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Phelps of Statesboro and Robert Phelps of Augusta; three daughters, Virginia Baker of Warner Robins, Carolyn Wickizer of Morehead City, N.C., and Mary Helms of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Arthur H. Clarke Sr. of Warner Robins; two sisters, Sue Cleveland of Plantation, Fla., and Mildred Monroe of Blakely; 12 grandchildren, and two devoted, lifelong friends, Raleigh and Annie Mae Bouie of Attapulgus.
