      Former Bossier Officer Dies

Gordon Baumgardner, 38, Succumbs to Heart Attack Tuesday

Gordon Bumgardner, 38, former Bossier City police officer and currently a special officer for the state at the Louisiana ordnance plant at Doyline, died suddenly of heart attack at his home, 912 Hamilton road in Bossier City at 12:45 p. m. Tuesday.

Mr. Bumgardner, who resigned from the Bossier police force to accept his present job two months ago, complained of "not feeling well" Tuesday morning and did not go to work. At 12:30 p. m. he called a physician and said he "felt a little" bad and asked the doctor to come to his home later in the day.

The physician, however, left for Bumgardner's residence immediately and when he arrived 15 minutes later Bumgardner was dying. His wife, Mrs. Louise Bumgardner, an employee of the Bossier State bank, was at work at the time.

Funeral arrangements have not been made, but rites will be held sometime Wednesday under direction of the Wellman funeral home. Mr. Bumgardner was a member of the Baptist church.

He was born in ward 5, Bossier parish, near Linton. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Bumgardner, early settlers in the parish.

Surviving, besides the widow are one son, Billie, age 10; three brothers, Harry of Bossier City, R. L. of Benton and Ernest of Homer; three sisters, Mrs. Claudia Boylston of Harmon, Mrs. W. F. Dalrumple of Benton and Mrs. W. R. Birdwell of Bossier City.
