    • Obituary:

It is with sadness that we announce the death our mother and grandmother, Virginia Rose Winkelmann.

Passed peacefully at Hospice Wellington on October 23, 2022. Predeceased by her husband, Linwood Edward Winkelmann and her son, Lynn Walker Winkelmann. Survived by her daughter, Nancy Ellun and granddaughters, Tamara Rose and Tanya Ellun.

Born May 21, 1929, in Maud, Oklahoma, she married in 1947 and moved to Sault Ste Marie, Ontario in 1960 with her husband and son. Virginia and Linwood worked together in their business in the tourism industry. Upon retirement they joined the International Executive Service Corps and assisted other entrepreneurs in this field in developing countries. Through the International Executive Service Corps, Virginia spent several years travelling to Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Ukraine, working on many volunteer projects. Virginia was among three finalists for the Frank Pace award from IESC for her endeavours. In return, she was happy to be able to travel globally and meet many people she counted among her friends. Virginia enjoyed spending time with her family and instilled in her children and grandchildren her love of reading and the importance of education.

A thank you as well to the wonderful PSWs and nurses who assisted her in her home until she went to Hospice Wellington where she received equally wonderful care until her passing.

Per her wishes, she has been cremated and has requested her ashes be spread in a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders. www.msf.ca
