Retired Oil Official Dies; Rites Today
Funeral services for Benjamin Whitaker Haywood, 60, who died Friday at his home, 3704 Greenway, after a long illness, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Osborn Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. The Rev. L. A. Carrington, associate pastor of the Noel Memorial Methodist Church, will officiate.
A native of Austin, Tex., Mr. Haywood was graduated from Texas A&M College. He was employed with the Gulf Oil Co. in Venezuela, and returned to the United States in 1948 to become district manager for the company in Jackson, Miss. Until his retirement five years ago, he was district manager for Gulf in the Shreveport area.
Mr. Haywood was a member of the Noel Memorial Methodist Church, Shreveport, Petroleum Club and the Ark-La-Tex Association of Petroleum Landmen.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Hazel Haywood; a son, Barry Haywood of Shreveport; four daughters, Mrs. R. T. Ezell of Lufkin, Tex., Mrs. E. T. Kettleman of Bartlesville, Okla., Mrs. James H. Jackson Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., and Miss Catherine Adelle Haywood of Shreveport; his mother, Mrs. Mattie P. Haywood of Shreveport; a brother, T. S. Haywood of Corpus Christi, Tex.; and ten grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joe T. Goodman of Shreveport, W. L. Allen of New Orleans, Joe T. Green of Houston, D. K. O'Connor and D. C. Callender, both of Jackson, and C. L. Rogers of Little Rock.
