  Obituary: Prominent businessman and life long resident Robert Wilson (Bobby) Moreland, 86 years of age, passed away April 7, 2003, at his son's home in Fort Worth, Texas. Born in Homer, Louisiana, on December 2, 1916, Mr. Moreland was a leading citizen and entrepreneur of the community. After attending Louisiana State University, he returned to Homer to work with his father, Chloe Moreland of Homer at Moreland's Grocery. This grocery was a fixture of the Homer town square for many years. During this time frame Mr. Moreland served in the United States Army in the European theater of World War II. He returned to Homer after the war and was in the grocery business for over 35 years as proprietor of Piggly Wiggly Grocery. For many years Mr. Moreland was a cattle rancher in Homer. He was instrumental in the development of Claiborne Bank and Trust, serving as Bank President for a period of time. After retiring from banking, he constructed, developed, and operated Moreland Meat Packing Company. Mr. Moreland was a lifetime member and elder of Homer First Presbyterian Church serving in many official capacities. His parents, Chloe and Eva Moreland, and his wife of 61 years, Ernestine Bumgardner Moreland, preceded him in death. Survivors include his sister, Eleanor Hightower McVicker of Homer; daughter, Martha Moreland Morris of Houston, TX and sons Dr. John Robert Moreland of Pacific Palisades, CA, James Wilson Moreland of Phoenix, AZ, Dr. Ernest Chloe Moreland of Atlanta, GA and Dr. David Justin Moreland of Ft. Worth, TX, fourteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons: Paul Roberts, Wes Moreland, Sam Moreland, and Robert Moreland; nephews: Preston Rogers, Ed Watson, and Mike Dougherty. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church of Homer, LA with the Rev. John McClelland officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 11, at Rose-neath Funeral Home in Homer. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the wonderful caregivers who have been so supportive during the last several years.
