    • Obituary:

      On April 17, 2022, John Roland Birdwell, Jr died peacefully in Dallas, Texas at the age of 72.

      John was born April 1, 1950 in Abilene, Texas, son of the late John Roland and Martha Hellen Birdwell. He graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1968. John served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and later the United States Army and the United States Army Reserves.

      John was a man with a great sense of humor and made every hard situation lighter. He often said his job was to tease his children.

      John is survived by three daughters, Rebecca Birdwell, Sheenna Donoho (Edward) and Tara Birdwell; one son, John Birdwell, III (Leanne); one step-son, Christopher Marcotte; five grandchildren, Donavon Thomas, Danielle Locklin (William), Dustin Thomas, John Birdwell, IV and Aubree Donoho; one great granddaughter Raelynn Locklin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Angel Marcotte Birdwell and his sister, Rebecca Durham.

      At John's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of John Birdwell to The Fund for Veterans' Assistance at https://www.tvc.texas.gov/grants/support-texas-veterans/ or at Companions for Heroes at https://www.companionsforheroes.org/donations.
