Nick Crnkovic, Sr. was born to Alphonse and Mary Crnkovic on September 10, 1930 in Oak Grove, Louisiana and died on December 21, 2023 at the age of 93. He was married to Jo-Anne Renyolds Crnkovic. He was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse and Mary Crnkovic; Jo-Anne Renyolds Crnkovic, his wife; and older sister Louise Pate.
Nick began working while still in high school working several jobs in his hometown of Hemphill Texas including movie projectionist, soda jerk, logging truck driver and working the wheat harvest through Kansas and Colorado. Then after a short stay in the navy he went to Houston. Nick attended college and apprentice school to become a journeyman sheet metal worker. While working for Straus Systems, he worked his way up to field superintendent supervising large commercial projects. After 43 years at Straus he retired in 1995.
Nick and Jo-Anne married in June of 1952. They resided their entire lives in Houston. They raised 4 children and were very active in the church, in the community. They also traveled throughout the US, Canada, Central America, and Europe. Nick was president of the Civic Club for many years, involved in the Positive Interactive Program (PIP), Houston Citizens Police Academy Alumni, Citizen Patrol, and was appointed to committees and advisory boards for the City of Houston. He received several accolades and awards for his community service from governmental officials. On a more personal level he took up yoga, expanded his hobbies and found delight in making intricate and elaborate wooden toys for his great grandchildren.
Nick and Jo-Anne celebrated 60 years of marriage before she passed in 2012. They have 4 children: Diane Alleva, Nick Crnkovic, Jr and wife Susan, Kathy McManus and husband Dan, and Leslie Crnkovic. He also has 6 grandchildren: Marie Henry, Daniel McManus, Robert Alleva, Sarah Crnkovic, Gary Alleva, and Mary Crnkovic Lee, as well as 8 great grandchildren.
Nick is survived by all of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his brothers Fred and Rickey Crnkovic, sister Cheryl Crnkovic Vines, and several nieces and nephews.
Rest in peace, Nick. you will remain in our hearts forever.
