Dalton Suire
Dalton Suire, 80, of Abbeville, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Abbeville General Hospital, in Abbeville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Abbeville, with the Rev. Donovan Labbe as the celebrant. Interment in St. Paul Cemetery.
Born on June 8, 1924, in Vermilion Parish, he was the son of Oscar and Marie Schexnayder Suire. Dalton served in the U.S. Army Combat Engineer group in Europe during World War II. He owned and managed White Auto Store, in Abbeville, from 1959 until 1970, and had also retired as a farmer, cattleman, refinery worker, and school bus driver. He had also served as a volunteer Little League and Babe Ruth coach.
Survivors include his wife Marie Dubois Suire, of Abbeville; three sons, Glenn Suire and wife Beverly of Abbeville, Sanford Suire and wife Brenda of Abbeville, and Harold Suire and wife Lynne of Baton Rouge; daughter, Kay Breaux and husband Glen of Breaux Bridge; nine grandchildren, Mark Suire and wife Jamie of Delcambre, Jamie Hamilton and husband Trey of Birmingham, Alabama, Sy Suire of Dayton, Ohio, Rachel Suire and husband Michael Riley of Baton Rouge, Timothy Suire of New Orleans, David Suire of Baton Rouge, Scott Suire and wife Ty of Abbeville, Jared Suire of Abbeville and Blair Breaux of Breaux Bridge; step grandson, Willie Breaux of Breaux Bridge; four great grandchildren, Patrick Riley of Baton Rouge, William Riley of Baton Rouge, Caitlin Suire of Abbeville, Kristen Suire of Abbeville; sister, Dorothy Broussard of Kaplan; three brothers, Luther Suire of Abbeville, Newton Suire of Kaplan, and Essie Marceaux of Scappoose, Oregon.
Dalton was preceded in death by his parents.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are his grandsons, Mark Suire, Sy Suire, Scott Suire, Jared Suire, Timothy Suire and David Suire. Honorary pallbearers are Jamie Hamilton, Rachel Riley, Blair Breaux and Willie Breaux.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to Dalton's long term caretaker, Linda Picard.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at David Funeral Home, 2600 Charity Street, in Abbeville. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday, from 8 a.m. until time of service.
