      Herbert J. Jones

      Herbert J. Jones, 71, of 1341 Annapolis, died at 3 a.m. yesterday in a local hospital after a long illness.

      He was a native of Westfield and had lived in Corpus Christi 37 years. Jones was a retired oilfield contractor. He also had been engaged in ranching, real estate and lumber. Jones was a member of the First Christian Church, Arabia Temple Shrine of Houston and Corpus Christi Commandry No. 57 KT.

      Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in Cage-Mills Funeral Chapel with the Rev. W. Oliver Harrison, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park.

      Survivors include his wife, Artie; and three sisters, Mrs. Ralph H. Smith and Mrs. Irma Van Eaton, both of Houston, and Miss Blanche Jones of Mexia.

      Pallbearers will be Arnold Morgan, W. L. Bates, David Cook, W. B. McAdams, H. R. Gardner and Herman Schieffer.
