Cotton Valley Native Dies in Texas Town
MINERAL WELLS, Tex. - John W. Adkins, 52, a native of Cotton Valley, La., who had lived in Mineral Wells eight years and in this area 17 years, was fatally stricken, apparently with a cerebral hemorrhage, at his home here early Monday.
Mr. Adkins became ill as he prepared to have coffee with a neighbor who had come to the house.
Funeral services will be held in Mineral Wells at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Carlock-Minnick Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Adkins had owned and operated Modern Cleaners here since July. He formerly operated a service station at Salesville near here and prior to that time, was a grocery merchant at Perin, Tex.
He was a Mason, a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Salesville Baptist Church.
He is survived by his widow; two brothers, Pennie, of Mineral Wells, and G. H. of Carlyle, Tex.; three sisters, Mrs. Guy Bigham and Mrs. Isha Cloud, both of Dallas, and Mrs. W. H. Service, of Vivian, La.; and a half-brother, J. E. Wills of Cotton Valley.
