    • Obituary:

Dorothy Lillian Drgac Kokes, 96, of San Angelo passed that veil we call death and entered into the awesome glory of God's presence. She died on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Regency House Nursing Home. Her funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday November 8, at the Wall Brethren Church. The Rev. Tommy Tallas will be officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, arrangements made by Johnson's Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born February 5, 1921, in Caldwell, Texas. She was the 3rd child born to Walter and Annie Langer Drgac. She attended school in Cooks Point, moving to San Angelo in January 1936. Soon after the move her older brother and mother died of an illness a few weeks apart. At the age of 15 Dorothy, having to quit school assumed the responsibility of helping raise the younger members of the family. This was the beginning of her wonderful cooking skills and taking care of children. Up until her marriage she lived and worked on a dairy farm.

Dorothy married Louis A. Kokes on November 21, 1947. They farmed 2 years, and then left farming both beginning jobs working in town. Dorothy first worked at a shoe factory for several years, next she got a job with the SAISD public schools for 25 years working in the cafeteria. During the summer she would work for Talk O. Texas Okra Co. She retired from SAISD after 25 years in 1984. Then she began providing child care to many children until early 2000. Never able to have children she loved being around them and they loved her! She was a mother figure to many, being known as "Teta" Dorothy, which is Czech for Aunt. Her nephews and nieces were always very special to her. Dorothy was blessed to become a God-mother to 3 babies, Judy Krupala Holik, Marilyn Gibson Holik, and Lisa Chasak Keis.

Dorothy was a member of the Wall Brethren Church, Christian Sisters, Czech Choir, RVOS, SPJST, Mutual Aid and the Concho Valley Czech Heritage Society. She attended the winter class of Hus School in 1942 and also was a BYF Sponsor. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, helping her husband with crafts with which they entered numerous times in the San Angelo Rodeo Exhibits. Working in the yard was her favorite thing to do. She always had many beautiful plants and flowers, bluebonnets being one her favorite!

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Louis Kokes, her parents, four brothers, Marvin, W.C., Albert and Hubert Drgac: three sisters, Evelyn Drgac, Viola Krupala and Clarice Drgac.

Survivors include her brother, J.D. Drgac and wife Loretta of Odessa, sister-in-law Noemi Drgac of San Angelo, nieces Dorothy Kubacak, Judy Holik, Marilyn Holik, Lyn Haterman and Deborah Drgac; Nephews Larry Drgac, Gary Drgac, James Drgac, Rodney Drgac, Scott Drgac, Robert Drgac and Richard Drgac; Daniel Chasak, Alan Chasak, Robert Krupala, John Krupala, Marvin Kokes, Eugene Kokes and many great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be: Larry, Gary and Scott Drgac, Stanley Holik and Benny Holik and Robert Krupala.

A heartfelt thanks and appreciation goes out Dr. Neil Chinn and the staff at Regency House and HOSA for all their loving care they gave Dorothy! May God bless you all! The family request that memorials be made to the Wall Brethren Church, P.O. Box 195, Wall, TX 76957, House of Faith, 321 Montecito, San Angelo, TX 76903 or to a charity of your choice.
