• Notes

  Obituary: CALDWELL - Services for Marvin M. Kubena, 78, of Cooks Point are set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell. The Rev. John R. Gantt Jr. of Hope Evangelical Free Church in College Station will officiate. Burial will be in the Cooks Point Brethren Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Kubena died Wednesday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. He was born in Burleson County and was a retired switchman for Southern Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the Cooks Point Brethren Church and served in the U.S. Army in Europe and South Africa during World War II. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lannette Kubena. Survivors include his wife, Anita Vance Kubena of Cooks Point; a son, Christopher S. Kubena of Denver; two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy A. Kubena of Houston and Cynthia L. and Dan Guerra of Kingwood, Texas; a brother, John L. Kubena of Caldwell; a sister, Margaret Smith of Caldwell; and two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
