  Obituary: Funeral services for John Lee Kubena, Sr., 79, of Caldwell are set for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Interment will follow at Cooks Point Brethren Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 12, 2013 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Mr. Kubena passed away at his home August 8, 2013. John was born March 4, 1934 to John Kubena and Lydia (Drgac) Kubena in Cooks Point, Texas. He graduated from Caldwell High School in 1952. He served his country in the United States Army. He then married Sadie Lavern Little on December 22, 1962 in Houston, Texas. John was a member of the Cooks Point Brethren Church. He love to fish and work on and collect cars, and play dominos. He was a very giving person and never took off time from work. He worked at the Union Pacific Railroad for more than 18 years. John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Loretta Kubena, Jr. of Portter, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Kubena of Giddings, Lydia and Danny Stone of Caldwell, Lora and Chris Burditt of Caldwell; sister, Margaret Kubena Smith of Caldwell; fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sadie, a brother Marvin, and one grandchild, John Kubena III. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
