Notes - Obituary:
Funeral services for Mr. Billy Lamar Twitty, of Springhill, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002 at Springhill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Burton Blair officiating. Burial followed at Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary of Springhill.
Billy spent most of his childhood in Springhill, later graduating from Byrd High School in Shreveport. He joined the Navy at 17 and served in the South Pacific during World War II aboard a mine sweeper, an aircraft carrier and a destroyer. With his wife, Billy owned and operated Porterville Country Store Feed and Farm Supply for 27 years. He was one of 13 founders of the Springhill Rodeo Assocation and an active member of Springhill United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Lamar.
His legacy is his wife of 56 years, Gertieann Cochran Twitty; two daughters, Patricia Cochran, Ruth Voss and her husband, Jerry; son David Twitty and his wife, Gail; eight grandchildren, Alan Stanford and his wife, Miranda, Brad Stanford, Mark Stanford, Anna Stewart and her husband, Phillip, Heath Tabor, Katie Voss and Lisa Grimes; and five great-grandchildren Cole Stanford, Porter Stanford, Nicholas Stanford, Brent Cowden and Cameron Grimes.
Pallbearers were David Rhea, Raymond Spence, Mike Washington, Lon Park, Charles Park and Kent Cage.
Honorary pallbearers were the Ed Shultz Bible class and Billy's golfing buddies.
Memorials may be made to Springhill United Methodist Church.
