Notes - Death Notice:
MILLICAN MAN IS KILLED ON HIGHWAY NO. 6
GEORGE GREER HIT BY CAR OF HOUSTON MAN; HE IS EXONERATED
George Greer, 55, well known resident of the Millican community, was almost instantly killed Thursday night, about midnight, when struck by an auto on Highway No. 6, about two miles south of Millican while walking toward the village. The car was driven by G. C. Koch of Houston, who was exonerated from blame by Justice A. J. Buchanan, who was called to the scene and held an inquest.
According to Mr. Koch and Tom Davis, who was with him, and who was driving south, Greer seemed to rise right out of the ground and was in the path of the car before there was any time to swerve and avoid him. Check by the coroner and Deputy Sheriff Offa Williams, who also went to the scene, showed the car was on the right side of the road when the accident happened.
Greer was a son of the late Steve Greer, who was a well known figure in Millican when that community was a railroad terminal. He is survived by his widow and by several children, some of them by former marriages.
Mr. Koch and Mr. Davis are residents of Houston. They are drilling a wildcat oil well near Baileyville, Milam county, across the Brazos river from Calvert. They go back and forth between the well and Houston daily and were on their way home Thursday night when Greer was hit by their car.
