ROLAND DEVILLIER SUCCUMBS FRIDAY IN NEW ORLEANS

Well Known Crowley Man Expires at Baptist Hospital After Operations

Frank Roland Devillier, 22 years of age, died early Friday morning at Baptist hospital in New Orleans, where he had been confined for four weeks following an operation. He had been seriously ill for a considerable length of time and his death, although it was a shock to relatives and friends, was not altogether unexpected.

Funeral arrangements had not been completed late Friday morning, but it was believed interment would be made in Rayne. His parents and other close relatives were all in New Orleans, where they were called when his condition became critical, and relatives here were not acquainted with the funeral plans. A Geesey-Ferguson funeral coach was sent to New Orleans this morning and was expected to return with the remains today.

Born in Crowley on April 22, 1917, young Devillier had spent practically all his life in this immediate vicinity, and had been an employe of the Simon Rice Mill since his graduation from St. Joseph's High school in Rayne. Roland, as he was known rather than by his first name, was a member of St. Joseph's boxing and basketball teams, excelling in both sports. He was a well liked young man and his loss will be mourned by a wide circle of friends, both young and old.

Surviving are his widow, the former Rena Clement of Rayne; a two-year-old daughter; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Devillier of Crowley; four brothers, Edgar, Horace, Robert and Oscar, Jr., and three sisters, Theresa, Edna Mae, and Celina, all of Crowley.

He had been seriously ill for a considerable length of time but had taken a turn for the better but later grew worse and succumbed early Friday. The remains were returned to Crowley Friday and lay in state at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Devillier, in South Crowley until the hour of the funeral. The cortege left the home here and proceeded to Rayne, where last rites were held.

Roland Devillier was born in Crowley on April 22, 1917, and spent most of his life in this section, where he had many friends in all ranks and of all ages. He had been an employe of the Simon Rice Mill here since his graduation from St. Joseph's school in Rayne. While at school he was an outstanding athlete and excelled in basketball and boxing.

Surviving besides hi parents are his widow, the former Rena Clement of Rayne, and a small daughter; four brothers, Edgar Devillier, Oscar Devillier, Jr., Horace Devillier and Robert Devillier; and three sisters, Edna Mae Devillier, Therese Devillier and Celina Devillier, all of Crowley.
