Sandra Sue Abate

Hearne
Sandra Sue Slama Abate, age 80, of Hearne, Texas, passed into her eternal life in Heaven on June 18th, 2024.
She was a beloved mother, wife, daughter, grandmother, sister and friend.
She was born on October 25, 1943, to Steve Slama and LaRuth Burkhalter Grumbles in Austin Texas.
Sue married Frankie Abate Sr. on October 24th, 1964. They were introduced to each other by her uncle Billy Burkhalter.
In 1987, Sue went to work at Gordons and Samuels Jewelers for close to 35 years. She loved selling jewelry and talking to her customers and friends.
Sue was in the Hearne Heritage League, a librarian at St. Mary's Church and in the Alter Society, she was head of the Church Bazaar for many years and enjoyed everything she accomplished.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Kim Knox, Lynette Abate and Gina Abate, her son Frank Abate Jr., a sister Kay (Clay) Perry, two grandchildren Nole (Milia) Opperman and Natori Abate, and one great grandchild, Kehlani Henderson Abate.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandparents, WD and Clara Burkhalter, stepfather, Vonnie Grumbles and her uncle Lanny Ray Burkhalter.
She will be greatly missed but the memories she leaves behind will be cherished by all of those who loved her.
