- Obituary:
Mrs. Eva Claire McBride
Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Claire McBride, 85, who died at the Rayne-Branch Hospital at 4:15 p.m. Saturday after a lengthy illness, were held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Father Paul Belliveau, C.J.M., officiated, and music for the Mass was provided by Willie Etta Servat, soloist, and Caroline Kuon, organist. Pallbearers were "Chuck" Fremaux, Walter Raymond, Brian McBride, Frank and Kenny Privat and Edwin Ousse, Jr.
For the entrance Hymn, "Rock of Ages" was provided, while other beautiful selections, sung by Miss Servat, accompanied by Mr. Kuon, included "Panis Angelicus," "How Great Thou Art," and "Only A Shadow."
Stephen Raymond, a grandson, provided the Readings for the Mass, including the always beautiful Shepherd's Psalm.
Father Belliveau used the Gospel message, "Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled" as theme of his most comforting Homily, reminding that Jesus has said "I go to prepare a place for you that where I am, you may be also. God's great gift is of Peace, and even on the morning of His Ascension, He left us his Peace-making us understand the glory of Eternity and what the word Peace really means.
"Losing someone very dear to us is always a sad time, but Eva Claire now understands the deep meaning of God's Peace, and we can rejoice and be thankful that through her death we can come close to understanding that Peace. 'Follow Me' were Jesus' parting words to his Disciples, and this is what we need to do each day of our lives-as we journey to God, may we continue to grow in the beautiful Peace of God, which Eva Claire has now gained."
Native of Lorena, Texas, she was the widow of the late Walter Joseph McBride, member of one of Rayne's earliest families, a druggist and former member of the Rayne City Council. Mrs. McBride was a long-time member of the Auxiliary Unit of Arceneaux Post, American Legion.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. A.E. (Jerry) Raymond, Jr. of Rayne and Mrs. Gabriel Alvandian, the former Mary Robin McBride, of West Haven, Conn.; six grandchildren, Gabriel, Daniel and Gregory Alvandian, Stephen and Walter Raymond and Mrs. James R. Bush, Jr., the former Mary Ann Raymond; and two great grandchildren, Mary Katherine and Michael James Bush.

Over many years, "Walter and Eva Claire" were part of an intimate circle of friends who share many happy memories of our children growing up together, contributing to community activities and growth, and enjoying many family-like events. She leaves as lovely remembrance of a gentle and loving individual, who as her family recalls, could "stand six feet tall" when the occasion arose.
Sincerest sympathy is extended to all her family as we remember a dear friend.
