A. E. Raymond
Funeral services for Antoine E. Raymond, Jr. 70, member of one of Rayne's early and best-known families, were held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church with Father Benoit Drapeau, C.J.M., pastor, as celebrant of the Mass and officiating during the final rites.
Mr. Raymond died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday in Rayne-Branch Hospital.

Antoine E. Raymond, Jr.
Legionnaires from Arceneaux Post 77, American Legion, provided full military honors for Antoine E. Raymond, Jr., 70, veteran of WWII, during the funeral mass and services at St. Joseph Church Saturday at 10 a.m., Fr. Benoit Drapeau, CJM, being celebrant of the mass and funeral ceremony.
Mr. Raymond died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday at Rayne-Branch Hospital after a brief illness. Burial followed in the St. Joseph Cemetery with Gossen Funeral Home directing arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Jeraldine McBride Raymond of Rayne; two sons, Walter Raymond and Stephen Raymond of Lafayette; one daughter, Mrs. Jim (Mary Ann) Bush of Rayne; two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Sylvia) Bourgaux of Rayne and Mrs. John D. (Ramona) Hunter of Baton Rouge; and four grandchildren.
Born in Rayne, he was the son of the late A.E. Raymond, Sr., and the late Adeline Stamm Raymond and was a well-known automotive dealer in this area for over 30 years.
Full honors were accorded him in recognition of his active service in the U.S. Army as an infantry platoon leader with the 95th Infantry Division in Europe during World War II. During his service, he earned three Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, two Battle Stars and the Liberation Medal from the City of Metz, France.
He was a member and officer of Arceneaux Post for a number of years, contributing much to growth of the Legion in the community.
Legionnaires who served as pallbearers were Rodney Trahan, Curtis Pellerin, Raymond Thevis, Clifton Owens, Leo Spaetgens and Raymond Domingue.
Making up the Honor Guard of Legionnaires were August Cormier, Murphy Nero, Louis Granger, John Courville, John Ohlenforst, Leo Melancon, Ernest Suiter, Elton Bourque, Estelle Fleming and John Shelton, Chaplain.
In closing memorial, the American Flag was folded and presented to this widow by Leo Melancon, with the final sounding of "Taps" concluding the traditional military honors.
