    • Obituary:

An angel took flight to heaven on Thursday, March 16, 2006. Nina " Meme" M. Philmon passed away after a long battle with cancer. She went peacefully surrounded by her girls. She cherished 35 wonderful years of marriage to James W. Philmon Jr. until his death in 1981. She owned her own beauty salon for 32 years. After retirement she worked for the Ladies Auxiliary, known as the " Pink Ladies," at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital for 13 years. She was a lady with many hobbies, such as cooking, working in her yard and sewing. Her sense of humor and wonderful smile will be greatly missed. Survivors include one daughter, Jeanette Hoffpauir and husband Terrance of Carlyss; two granddaughters, Marla Landry of Carlyss and Angie Landry of Hackberry; three great-granddaughters, Brittney Broom and husband Joey of Buna, Texas, and Taylor Landry and Kaye Leigh LaBove, both of Hackberry; three step-granddaughters, Julie Ragusa and husband Brad of Lake Charles, Jacqueline Hartman and husband Stuart of Baton Rouge, and Shelby Hoffpauir of Carlyss; one step-great-granddaughter, Gabriella Ragusa of Lake Charles; two sisters, Willa Mae Robert and Joyce Landry, both of Lake Charles; two brothers, Willie McBride and wife Hazel of Lake Charles and Anderson " Joe" McBride of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews, including a very special and dedicated nephew, Lynn Richard; sisters-in-law, Virginia Philmon and friend Jenny and Evelyn Estes and husband Buddy of Baton Rouge; and brothers-in-law, Bill Philmon and wife Mary Ann of Lufkin, Texas, Glenn Philmon and wife Helen of Metairie, and Jake Philmon and wife Patricia of Lake Charles. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James W. Philmon Jr.; two sisters, Ilene Durese and Eva Derouen; and three brothers, Clopha Richard, Clabby Andrus and Tom McBride. Her funeral will be at 2 p. m. Saturday, March 18, in Hixson - Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Roland Vaughn will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss. Visitation is 1 - 9 p. m. today, with a rosary service at 6 p. m., and from 9 a.m. Saturday. The family asks that memorial donations be made in her memory to the recovery effort for St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church of Hackberry. Words of comfort may be left for the family at www.mem.com.
